Thread lock on the transmission drain plug, or not?

I'm draining the hydro on the 522xi. The plug is exactly the same as the one on the 520-H (also an Eaton 11). I can't remember if I put a dab of blue on that one when I did a fluid change. My question is: threadlock blue on the plug--yes or no?

I use a little white liquid teflon on mine for good sealing and the ability to get it out again. If it in less than perfect condition I would recommend replacing it as a stripped out plug that cannot be easily removed is a real pain.

Thanks. The threads are good and were not leaking before. The service manual just says to put it back... but I like the liquid teflon idea

If the threads are good, just a little pipe joint compound will do. I use the yellow stuff in a tube that is safe for gas and oil. I don't want to use anything that is going to make that plug harder to get out next time I try.

ive changed alot of wheel horse trans oils and never put anything on the plug and never have had one leak but i'm sure it would not hurt if you wanted to put some kind of sealing compound on it

I use the same stuff as Cleat.  Works fine and the plug removes easily.

Never use Teflon tape, if a piece breaks off inside the trans and floats around to the wrong place, you will not be pleased.

I don't use it but it won't hurt using loctite. I would use blue only and if your concerned about loctite not releasing the plug, a small propane torch or lighter will work. Loctite "releases" with heat
