I'd go ahead and look for a new gear so I could sleep easy at night. No telling what condition the remaining teeth are in, could be similar damage waiting to let loose. Penetrant test might help ease your mind some.

I always fall back on trying to do it right the first time because I don't have time to do it a second time.

Agree Clip  - if anyone has a parts tranny I would need a 3530 axle gear ...PM me.

I was thinking about drilling & tapping a new drain hole for a magnetic drain plug????

If you are considering reusing the chipped gear I would suggest having it magnafluxed.            :twocents-02cents:

Oh the joy Tom oh the joy.... not quite as fun as your project, I didn't snap off any hooby doos ...yet :teasing-poke:
All in all still alot less expensive & frustrating to work on than chrome horses tho... Gonna have about 500 clams in this girl time Its said & done, shovelhead project has about 6000 clams in it so far and a looong way from done.

If you are considering reusing the chipped gear I would suggest having it magnafluxed.            :twocents-02cents:

Great idea but by the time Id spend finding a place that does it  I'd be further off getting Michigan Jake's.

@stevasaurus

Where did I screw up?? Got to work on the tranmission last nite and got it buttoned up. Problem is when I put it in gears it will not turn the axles with turning of the input shaft except for 3rd gear. The shifter detents click into place but nobody is home in reverse, 1st & 2nd. I must have  something backwards & looks like I am going to have to unbutton it and check it out.  It did seem go back together harder than what I would have thought it should. Will go look at your  videos again Steve and see where I screwed up.

It sounds to me that it's coming apart again Jim. I'm thinking you didn't put a key in for the cluster shaft reduction gear. I don't know if that would react like that but it's the only thing I can think of right now.

Now would be a good time to have one put together with threaded rod like I did and Steve in his video. Pop that key out and see what happens :)

Yeah could be I didn't take the cluster gears apart when cleaning but I did take the top cluster gear off on the brake side to shoe horn it all back in so I am sure the top key is in but maybe the bottom input side one fell out during install. I was looking at the threaded rod thing and it is together like Steve's. I should have popped the shifter in when the brake side was still off and checked it that way. Thanks

Unfortunately you're probably gonna have to break the right side cover loose to get to that one. Don't feel bad. I had mine together and apart so many times I lost count. :(

After forcing the boy to child labor (bribing him with money) at the parts cleaner got to look at these. Holes in the axle are quite oblonged and spindles aren't the best. Somewher along the years someone must have not liked the grease gun. Notice the zerk missing out of one side. The options the way I see it unless you guys have other ideas is to

A ) Bore them out and install bronze bushings or

B ) Grease the snot out of them and run as is

Looking good Jim. She will be a beauty when you get her all painted and buffed out. :)  I'm glad I didn't restore it as it looks like it was used and abused. You're doing a good job - keep up the good work.

FINALLY .....a roller!!!

The spindle holes in the front end were quite oblonged  so I managed to get some bushings installed so it tightened up fairly well. Spindles were pretty worn too but that would have been real  expensive machining so will run as is.

The RJ58 was the big hit for spectators this year at my local festivals here in Carroll County OH.
the children loved getting their pictures sitting on it, then they discovered the bicycle horn under the steering wheel. It’s always a joy even in parades. Just love showing off part of my collection every year and hearing all the stories from those that had WH in their lives at one time. Can hardly wait to get to retirement so I can get some of my other models back to their glory in working order and be able to attend other shows/festivals throughout the year. My fellow tractor enthusiasts always know when a spectacular starts asking about WH, they point in my direction. I study up on the history of the different models and always intrigue those that didn’t know much about how WH came to be. This website is one place that has helped me learn so much about the WH history and I thank you for sharing your knowledge that I am able to pass on to keep WH alive and well.

Husband wants some advice… lol.  So we did an engine swap today on two suburbans because we could not get the one engine to spark all the time to get it running!  The engine ran last year before parking for the winter sleep…. Points were changed out for new the engine was cleaned to make good contact has new spark plug new coil condenser we even switched out the fly wheel today thinking maybe the magnet was weak…. Advice???   It would where are you out yanking on the recoil five or so times and maybe only get the points to fire twice if you’re lucky..  checked the gap and pull again… same thing over and over!  Thanks in advance!
