Electro12WH 50 #1 Posted November 13, 2008 The K series 'big blocks' had several different starters. Is any one of them clearly superior to the others?
htopjimmy26 3 #2 Posted November 14, 2008 I think that I heard somewhere that the magnum starter was superior in some way, but that it needs some sort of mod to fit. :hide:
Electro12WH 50 #3 Posted November 14, 2008 I'm told that one starter has magnets. The other has field windings. There are different end caps.
htopjimmy26 3 #4 Posted November 15, 2008 I'm really going out on a limb here but.......back when I sold car parts in the early 90's seems as though the permanent magnet starters were kinda new. Peolpe used to smack the old style starters with a hammer to get a couple more starts out of them before expiration, with the newer style starters if you smacked them hard enough you could crack the magnets and ruin them. I seem to recall that the permanent magnet starters were more capable for the size . I hope this helps .
