stevebo-(Moderator) 8,330 #1 Posted May 9, 2015 I had a listing on ebay for my 96' 520 with 60" deck. Got to taling with a potential buyer and he offered up his C160 plus some cash on top. He is from Rochester NY and I am in CT. He made the trip out to my place today to make the trade. I would think it is about 5 1/2 hours each way...He is a really nice guy and knows his horses for sure. He has traveled around the country buying out many Wheel Horse dealers back in the late 90's. He went to the 2nd annual Wheel Horse show in PA but then life got in the way of his hobby so he sold a lot of his stuff and lost interested. He did manage to restore this one back in 07'. Did a nut and bolt restoration including rebuilt motor and tranny, auto paint, upgraded front end to the HD spindles and all new wiring. Since his restore he tried not to really work it. He also has a 520-8 that he uses as a worker. He and I are both happy and I got some parts to boot. I am not thrilled bringing a tractor to the big show that i did not restore myself however i think this one will be there for sure. I plan on pulling the wheels tomorrow and painting them the correct white. Has a few touch ups to do no the rear end and throw on the wide 10.50 on 520 rims to give it the look I want. Here she is...

squonk 41,016 #4 Posted May 9, 2015 I know I'll get flamed but I'll take a C-160 over a 520 any day.

JERSEYHAWG / Glenn 4,497 #10 Posted May 9, 2015 Very very nice, cleanly done and well kept. Glenn
Retired Wrencher 5,440 #11 Posted May 9, 2015 Steve it all ways catches my eye when some one takes the time and does it right. Plus the other thing is when you leave the bolts and nuts not painted, This adds a lot of class. But it is harder to do. Enjoy the ride. Gary B..
stevebo-(Moderator) 8,330 #12 Posted May 9, 2015 The problem I have is that I have an nos cigar lighter but there is no place to put it in this dash-
Tankman 3,518 #13 Posted May 9, 2015 Very nice Horse! Can't say much on your new Stallion as compared to the 520. I often daydream, wondering why I admire my '85 416-8 so much. Hardly used but always ready. Never lets me down.
squonk 41,016 #14 Posted May 9, 2015 Light the stogie off of the muffler!
stevebo-(Moderator) 8,330 #15 Posted May 9, 2015 I really like this tractor but have not had a chance to put it to the test. I can tell you there is a clear difference in the feel of this one vs a 520. 520 is hands down a heavier feel for sure. I guess I may have to put it to the test soon... Off to pull the wheels and tires to get it ready for paint....
Ken B 3,164 #16 Posted May 9, 2015 I know I'll get flamed but I'll take a C-160 over a 520 any day. For the most part I agree with that comment. I had a 520 with very low hrs on it that Steve now has. Long story short, you CAN'T beat a 520 that has low hrs. on it, but once them hrs. get up there you are always waiting for IT to happen. Next time I'm up we can hook a chain between a 160 and a 520 and see which one is the Big Hoss Man on the Ponderosa. Maybe even make a video of the event..
squonk 41,016 #17 Posted May 9, 2015 (edited) Get them tires spinnin. The loser will have the hottest tires and you can light stogies off of that! I just like the styling of the c series better. Stonger hoods, no little rubber bungee bumpers to hold the flimsy hood down, better initial paint quality, 1/600th of the electrical problems And not having to wait for IT to happen. AMC RULES 37,126 #18 Posted May 9, 2015 Had both of 'em... still have the 520. Patiently waiting for the video.

tbarnhart 240 #20 Posted May 9, 2015 Craig, you just needed to find one like I have. A '74 C-160 with a OHV HH160 Tecky. Its got power, class, fuel economy, sound, etc. Can't go wrong Never had a 520, but this thing works hard and loves it.

JimD 3,345 #24 Posted May 9, 2015 Nice trade Steve. I'd love to try out a 520 but I had an off brand for awhile with a Briggs twin and it didn't take me long to appreciate the fuel economy of my single cylinder Koehlers.
bo dawg 516 #25 Posted May 9, 2015 Simply beautiful tractor. Want to see it after you paint the wheels and make your changes. I would hate to use it as a worker myself. I have used 520's and I agree that they are heavy and good workers but man they love the gas. I rather have the Kohler twin or single any day. Jus saying....
