Lane Ranger 11,126 #1 Posted May 3, 2015 We worked all week on the vegetable garden tilling, incorporating old horse manure and yesterday and today starting the alignment of rows planting of seeds! We used the 1979 Wheel Horse C-121 and tiller for a lot of the work but also used the 1961 Wheel Horse 701 with disc, spiked tooth harrow. We will be using the 701 with two piece cultivator to keep the garden as free of weeds as possible later on in the season. We will be placing plants in the ground in about 10 days! Here are a few early pics of the process used. specialwheelhorse 174 #4 Posted May 3, 2015 (edited) Good friend said he used to drink more mint tea till he noticed Little bit their garden dog draining her radiator on the mint! Weed eater line is great for laying out nice rows but we know You can get more plants in a crooked row !!! Edited May 3, 2015 by specialwheelhorse

groundhog47 347 #9 Posted May 3, 2015 Lane, just can't believe you let those horses do that, they are too pretty (if that's a proper term). You sure that's not an old sales brochure, wow! Shames me so at my old boys conditions . And really, is that term "worked" accurate, I'll bet it was a joy for you and the hosses! At any rate, good job all around!

groundhog47 347 #11 Posted May 3, 2015 (edited) They were made to work not sit on a pedestal Groundhog! They do their best when working ! I know, I know, but I never saw or had the opportunity to groom quality or new. Must be why mine remain rougher than rough! Setting idle doesn't do them well anyway! Lane Ranger 11,126 #15 Posted May 3, 2015 Those old discs and spiked tooth harrows work a lot better with some cement blocks on them! Disc should be angled at first to break up the soil faster! Harrow has to be cleaned of plant and weed debirs after about four or five runs ! But all in all for 50 plus year old stuff they did break up the soil pretty well!
