econo 32 #1 Posted May 3, 2015 Hi guys. got my 855 running pretty smooth but seems to not have enough rpm's at high throttle. Tried adjusting the governor but the engine tried to run away so I dialed it back again. Any advice on how to ramp up the power just a bit? Kohler 181 motor, carter model n (22) Thanks
Save Old Iron 1,565 #2 Posted May 3, 2015 let's get a baseline for your question. what does kohler claim the top RPM should be? what are you currently reading for your high RPM's ?
econo 32 #3 Posted May 3, 2015 Kohler states no rpm's greater than 3600 for this engine. I will need to get a tachometer to check. But on cutting grass, seems like she needs a little more engine speed
WH nut 553 #4 Posted May 3, 2015 Set the RPM to 3600. If its bogging down while cutting the grass is too tall
woodchuckfarmer 333 #5 Posted May 3, 2015 Is the clutch or belt slipping ?

wallfish 16,780 #7 Posted May 4, 2015 First, make sure the governor is properly set according to the manual When adjusting high RPM, set the throttle control to the high rpm position, loosen the clamp holding the throttle cable conduit. With the engine running adjust rpm by moving the conduit and clamping it back down when the engine is turning at the proper 3600 rpm. You can find a wireless Tach on ebay for under $
