Pollack Pete 2,273 #1 Posted April 30, 2015 I just installed one new axle seal on my recently acquired C-195.Checked here yesterday for what type oil the tranny uses.Chart says 10-30 or 10-40 motor oil.I draind the trans this morning and it's pink colored automatic trans fluid. How do I purge the automatic trans fluid out? Or do I just leave what little there's left and fill it with 10-30 motor oil? Thanks for any and all info.I also have a genuine Toro filter to install. bmsgaffer 2,045 #2 Posted April 30, 2015 (edited) There is probably a LOT left in it (lines, lift cylinder, pump and motor cavities etc). I think the eatons hold 6 quarts and you only change 2 or 3 in the transmission reservoir? some crazy figure like that. See Below. You can probably just continue to run ATF. Its not specified by WH but i think the Eaton manual said it was ok. To flush it you basically drain, change with 10w-30, run for a few feat back and forward use the lift, then drain, fill repeat quite a few times. Let me check the eaton manual to be sure on this. bmsgaffer 2,045 #3 Posted April 30, 2015 Eaton does specify certain characteristics that the oil used in the pumps must fall under but it says that ATF is acceptable. My only issue is that WH probably specified motor oil for its lubrication properties in the gearbox, so that's what I would stick with, but that's just me. So to sum it up: ATF in an eaton is OK but not WH approved.
bmsgaffer 2,045 #4 Posted April 30, 2015 So I read up on it and the Eaton "refill capacity" is 5 qts. I cant find the whole system capacity... I might have made it up...

mey030 9 #7 Posted May 5, 2015 They changed from ATF fluid to 10w30 oil and I think it was in 74. was when they changed hydro pump and motor style. the pump stayed basically the same changed the motor from gear style 2 piston style hope this helps. I remember this because first couple years of that new style people did not run rpm ienough too cool the hydro motor and would score the pistons used to have kits for them don't have any anymore
