gulflex1 0 #1 Posted April 29, 2015 Hi, I am new here (having mostly green and yellow & yellow and white), this is the first Horse in my stable. I just purchased a C175 along with tiller, dump trailer, plow bar, various attaching blocks, and homemade carry bin. First off, I cannot find a serial tag anywhere on this unit to determine exact year. I am the third owner and do know the man that purchased it new. I plan to call him and ask if he has any paperwork or manuals kept for it. Next, being new, I am confused on the gray color. I thought only Workhorse's were gray, but this has Wheel Horse decals. This unit has an 18hp Twin Briggs engine that the second owner told me came new on it. I plan to verify that with the original owner also. So far the unit needs a good cleaning and a rebuild on the caruretor, as it runs rather rough. I suspect ethanal. Any insights on the gray woudl be appreciated. Notice the added toolbox/arm rest on the rear fender. Thanks, David
bmsgaffer 2,043 #2 Posted April 29, 2015 I do believe you have a workhorse GT-18xx, the decals are not correct. Bonus is that you probably have an 18hp engine! It has the wider tires, and it looks like a briggs muffler. That workhorse is almost identical to an early 520H but it has a briggs engine and the smaller spindles for the front wheels i think. It should do you good for a while!

gulflex1 0 #5 Posted April 29, 2015 Thanks for the information Glenn and Brandon!! The pics show tons. That helps out a lot and maybe explains why I cannot find a serial number anywhere. I drove it around and then tilled in his garden before bringing it home. Went to move it last night and would not crank. Plan to go through the carb first thing, as it ran so rough anyway. This is the other items that I got with this unit. I was surprised that the cart still had the plastic caps on the wheels. Can anyone explain what the two items in the yellow circle are? It looks like some type of leveling or adjusting bolts on each part. And how difficult would it be to find a mowing deck to fit this unit? Thanks again, David
forphase1 5 #6 Posted April 29, 2015 Those circled are mules drives. They attach to front (see other pics of the work horse above) and allow you to send the belt/power from the pto to the mowing deck and other attachments. DougL3 63 #7 Posted April 29, 2015 (edited) First off, howdy neighbor! I'm up the road in China Grove. Just bought a 416-8 a few weeks ago, so I'm fairly new to red horses myself. Second, the 2 objects circled are mule drives for the mowing deck. They only work for the mowing deck as far as I know, as no one else seems to know of any other attachments they work with. I happen to have a decent 42" side discharge mowing deck, a couple spare belts, and clean mule drive I'm looking to part with. Any interest in trading for that there plow bar? bmsgaffer 2,043 #8 Posted April 29, 2015 Those are both mule drives. They clip onto the front attachmatic and they route the belt from the PTO around the front axle under the tractor to where your deck would be. One looks to be missing a pulley and the other one's pulleys are rough. Decks shouldnt be hard to find, just harder to find in great shape. Usually the mule drives sell with the deck, so be sure to pick one up! With 18hp you should be able to run a 36", 42", 48". EDIT: I see forphase beat me to it. Those mule drives are only for the mower decks, no other attachments.

clip 185 #10 Posted April 29, 2015 It's general consensus here that the Briggs engines are crap, but don't take any of that. The 16hp Briggs on my GT1600 impresses me every time I turn the key! Strong as an ox and purrs like a kitten.
