GT -14 Hub Swap - To address Tire Availability

Recommended Posts

Aldon

I'll first admit to my relative ignorance in dealing with tires, rims and sizes.

Tire availability is abysmal for the 15 inch GT-14 tires. I have searched many, many threads & google foo is expended and there is seemingly option of an Ag tire from American Farmer (narrower than I prefer) or Skidsteer Ags ( stiffer than ideal).

While I may end up going one of those routes, it looks like an option discussed elsewhere is to swap the hubs with D series along with rims.

I am wondering if any on here have gone that route. I would like to see pics if you have them.

Wondering if tires with similar stock height are available to go onto the D series rims. I think stock is ~ 29 inches.

For those in the know, is it only the hubs that need swapped to accept the rims?

Thanks in advance.

I've seen 27x12 for wheeler tires on a GT14 All they did was redrill the hub and tap the holes

:twocents-twocents:   Miller Tire has a Goodyear 7.60-15 Sure Grip tractor tire for $ 195. Not quite as big as the 8.50 turf tires that came on the GT-14 but they are 29.6 " high and 7.8 " wide. If you want Ag tires rather than skid steer this may be worth looking into.

I just put 2 American Farmer ags on my D --- this is what they look like...

These came off ebay, 2 tires plus tubes at $220 + ship for a total of about $260. I was a bit leery about them but once on I am really pleased!

Send me a PM and I'll give you a link to the seller.

Thanks Gentlemen.

Duane, I may go that route. As your aware I have one GT 14 with new old stock tread. I have 3 total GT14's and teo have new old stock tread in pretty good condition. The third will need new rear tires. All 3 need new front tires. May try the 5 ribs. BTW, do you still have the yellow GT14 or has it found a new home?

Pacer, I messaged you my email. I am using smart phone and screen was whacky for message so let me know if it did not come through correctly. I am torn on whether to go with Ag or turf tires. If I could get wider Ag's it would be best of both worlds. As my dad was oft to say, if a frog had wings...yada yada....guess I have enough data even if limited to make choice.

BTW, if anyone reads this I am potentially in market for belt guard.

Fast88PU,

Congrats on acquisition and getting it running.

And yes sir. I will need to get the Drive Belt Guard at some point as one of my horses is missing it.

I have not tinkered much with my third GT14 yet so I may need additional parts.

I am on the fence on bring the 3rd on back to life and giving it to my Daughter and Son in law or using it for parts.

Probably will depend on finding another GT14 parts machine.

I am making headway though.

I got the PTO on my C161 fixed and ready to cut grass and one of my GT14's going this past week so I am making the best of the spring thaw:-)
