Shuboxlover 476 #1 Posted April 26, 2015 Went to start my D-160 (onan) today and it would only run when the choke was mostly on. It smelled really gassy and didn't have full power. Last year it ran PERFECT!!! I took the top off the carb, cleaned the heck out it, put it back together and.....it was still doing it. What course of action do you suggest I do now? It's so frustrating as it ran so good last year.
the_nite_owl 15 #2 Posted April 26, 2015 The float is probably sticking. When you have it running tap the front of the carb with a wrench or screwdriver, that will often unstuck the float at least for a moment and it will run better until it sticks again. If you have the original foam type float they are prone to swelling from years exposure to ethanol and begin to jam against the inside of the carb. I had to find a copper replacement for mine to get it running again.

the_nite_owl 15 #4 Posted April 27, 2015 You might need to adjust the float so it closes off the gas flow just a little bit earlier. Do you have the vacuum driven fuel pump? Check that and the vacuum line for leaks. Make sure the air filter is not clogged starving the engine of air.
