clip 185 #1 Posted April 20, 2015 I've been considering refreshing the paint on the Work Horse, but maybe a good bath will do since there aren't any big rust issues to deal with. Heck, even the wheels are in decent shape except where the wheel weights rub. However, I was wondering what colors people use to redo the panels and wheels. Looks to me like the wheels below are bright white, but I've been reading that most other restorations involve linen white or a similar off-white color. chex313 123 #2 Posted April 20, 2015 I don't know about that tannish color on your workhorse...but I wish mine was in that shape. It looks close to the shade they use on the wheels, Maybe thats why they made them white?
clip 185 #3 Posted April 20, 2015 I'd call that tan color a dirty gray, as I haven't washed it since I got it last year. It was extremely dusty when I brought it home. Here's another pic that might give a better idea of the standard gray color:

Ken B 3,164 #5 Posted April 20, 2015 If that Work Horse were mine I'd give it a real good bath and some super detailing work. It looks way too nice to repaint it!
clip 185 #6 Posted April 20, 2015 That's what I'm leaning towards, might touch up just the rear wheels but figured I'd try to find out the entire color scheme in this thread. I've heard of people cleaning up paint with WD40 and fine steel wool, but this is going to get the Meguiars Gold Class soap and water treatment first to see where that gets me. They are only original once. That thing does not need a repaint. Buff it out. No need for oil and steel wool....it's not that bad. Just needs a good polish to remove the haze. Use a good cleaner wax or buy some cutting compound and some polish. Repaints are for tractors beyond bringing back and steel wool and oil are for rusty tractors. c-series don 9,037 #8 Posted April 20, 2015 Work Horse wheels should be white not off white. At least that's the color they were when I bought my GT 1800 new in 1984!
clip 185 #9 Posted April 20, 2015 (edited) Thanks for the help! Looks like I'll go with a gloss white when it's time to touch up. I've been talking myself into and out of ag tires on the rear, but I'm definitely ready to go with V61s on the front and fill the rears with fluid. I don't do much but mow grass and plow snow, and I'm of the opinion two-link chains on turf tires will give better traction on snow.
