SgtBob 27 #1 Posted April 18, 2015 I was wondering if a member who has made a homemade hub puller would be interested in loaning it out or selling it. I have a stuck hub on a 520. I have a two armed puller that's not working at all. With the puller on the hub I also have struck the back of the hub as much as I am comfortable with. N3PUY 1,031 #5 Posted April 19, 2015 I was lucky! The hub I used is off of the left side ... it slid right off. The reason the right side hub was stuck is because the set screw had mushroomed against the axle and would not back out. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I got the hub off using the method suggested but now the key is stuck in the axle ! Any easy way to get the the key out of the axle ?????? pacer 3,174 #10 Posted April 22, 2015 Dang! if it aint one thing its another The hubs are notoriously hard to get off, then, as you are finding out, the dang key is stuck, and here again they are bad about getting stuck and sometimes as bad as the hub! As gaffer said, get a big screwdriver and just at the rounded portion sticking up lay the screwdriver flat on the axle and give the key a good rap. I had one so bad I mangled a screwdriver and moved to a cold chisel and by the time it finally turned loose the key was totally destroyed. Oh, and by the way if you think you had fun with the hub wait til you have the steering wheel experience! :eek: Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

WHX?? 49,194 #13 Posted August 22, 2016 So last week I was using the 520 to pull some bushes out and in my stupidness got the cable wrapped around the hub. No big deal but the cable mangled the big plastic thrust washer causing the seal to leak. Mangaged to get the remains of the thrust washer out and the seal quit leaking but I need to pull the hub to replace the washer and the seal on the other side is weeping abit so that side needs to come off as well. So in in need of a junk hub to make a puller. Lowell @wheelhorseman1000 says you might have an extra puller for sale Tom @Shynon or an extra hub. If not Tom, Lowell says he has one that one for me as well. See ya in a couple of days. Worse part is the other side has a twisted off set screw...oh the joy.... I'm using the same setup on mine. One hub came off no issue the other one is giving me a fight. I used a little heat and pb blaster. I think I will switch to a fine thread bolt.
