Leaking Sundstrand.

Recommended Posts

Shuboxlover

I am posting this for a friend, so I appologize if all the info isn't here.

He has a 12 automatic.

He says it is leaking hydraulic fluid and the o-rings from the sundstrand pump are to blame, he said some are square and some are round.

I haven't messed with the sundstrands very much, does this make sense?

If it makes sense, does anyone have info on the sizes of o-rings that he may need?  Is there a supplier of these or is it as simple as oredering the correct sizes from a place like McMaster Carr?

Any help would be appreciated.

Best regards...

If he is talking about the o rings between the pump and the motor unit there are 6. (4 are regular 2 are square backer rings.  All still available from Toro.  I found the round ones at McMaster but not the backer rings.

It appears that those numbers are for an 18 auto....I would think the 12 auto is different?

Is that the case?

The piston to piston sundstrands use the same whether they are standard (direct coupled) or separated (D series with manifolds). If it is a hydro-gear unit they do pt have those orings and something else is leaking.

Gothcya Paul thanks!

What is a hydro-gear unit?

Later Sundstrands were piston to piston.  There was a block with 9 slipper(pistons to most of us) in both the pump and the motor parts.  The pump was a variable displacement set up (via a swash plate) the motor was fixed. The pump and motor are separable.   Earlier units were called hydro gears they had the piston set up in the pump but the motor was just like a gear pump except it was driven. It is not separable.  Looking at the motor part the end plate looks a bit like a figure 8
