DougL3 63 #1 Posted April 14, 2015 (edited) Hi guys! Picking up my first horse tomorrow, a 416-8 with the kohler K341 Kohler Magnum M16 in it. Overall she looks good and is complete. One owner tractor, but it doesn't run. He stated he had just finished mowing one day back in March, was headed back to the garage when it sputtered and died. I figure best case a head gasket and worst case a broken rod. He said it just lost compression and wouldn't ever restart. He told me he hasn't even tinkered with it, just parked it and bought a new zero turn. Super clean and I think it's worth the $300. Thanks! AMC RULES 37,130 #2 Posted April 14, 2015 Sputtered and died, doesn't sound like a catastrophic failure... hopefully it won't take much to get your going again.
953 nut 55,198 #3 Posted April 14, 2015 The easiest way to tell if it has a major problem is to pull the plug and crank it over, if you hear air coming out of the plug hole the rod isn't broken. The newer have a vent on the gas cap, if it is plugged up the pump won't pump gas, stalls and won't restart; badly fouled plug, stalls, won't restart; condensation in gas tank, stalls and won't restart; trash in the fuel system from running ethanol enhanced gas, stalls and won't start. Lots of simple things can and will cause this type of problem. If it was running well and still has compression then I don't think it should be a problem. I have had a couple of thrown rods in my time and they were much more than sputtered and died! Good luck and let us know what you find.

DougL3 63 #6 Posted April 15, 2015 (edited) Headed to get the horse this afternoon! I'll post pics when I get it home. Looking at more than likely selling the deck, as this is going to be my work horse. Teaser pic from the CL ad. Turns out its an M16 Kohler Magnum, not the K341 I originally thought. bmsgaffer 2,043 #7 Posted April 16, 2015 Welcome! Basically the same as a K341 with full pressure lube and a few other niceties. Looks like its in great shape! Doesn't sound serious at all (hopefully!)
Bert 760 #8 Posted April 16, 2015 (edited) I saw that one on CL, looks like great potential there. Edited April 16, 2015 by Bert
