Ed Kennell 40,498 #26 Posted March 27, 2015 Bob, I have been watching eagle nests from a distance on the Susqy for many years, but last year a friend from Georgia sent me a link to a live stream camera on a eagle nest on a collage campus. I was addicted and watched this pair hatch two eggs and saw the young eagles leave the nest. Needless to say, I was really pleased to see a camera put on a nest so close to home I could visit the nest. I have been watching this nest from the beginning. Tell your grandson during that 10" snow, the female eagle was completely covered with snow with only the top of her had showing for hours. She was not moving and I feared she had died , but then the snow cover started to crack as she started moving beneath the snow. She very quickly then extended her wings exploding the snow from the center of the nest keeping the eggs dry in the process. This piece of video has been on facebook , and if I can retrieve it, I will post it here. Maybe Craig will locate and post it. He has much better knowledge and skills than I have. Ed Kennell 40,498 #30 Posted March 27, 2015 I'm sure the little late comer will make it. This rivalry is normal and Momma will be sure they both get some protein . This is not the case with the Great Blue Herons I watch every spring. They nest in a pine tree right over my deck at my camp in Delaware. They usually lay 3-4 eggs and they all hatch, but when they get big enough and the nest gets too small, It sounds like a pterodactyl fight at Jurrasic Park when Mother brings in a fish. Invariably one or two of the weaker young get pushed out of the nest and do a beak plant on my deck. KC9KAS 4,744 #32 Posted March 28, 2015 An adult eagle was found in our county a couple of weeks ago that had been shot. The conservation officers took it to an eagle rehab location but it died. The eagle had a "brood patch" so they know there were eggs or eaglets somewhere. They are searching for a nest with 1 parent to intervene if possible. The DNR & conservation officers are also looking for any info on who the low-life butt-hole is that shot it! It is worth $2500 to anyone with good information! He just brought in a live white crappie and momma jumped right on it and is feeding it to the babies now. Ed Kennell 40,498 #39 Posted April 2, 2015 I don't know how far they go Rick, but the nest is right on the lake that has an abundance of gizzard shad, so I wouldn't think they go very far. If you look at the time lapse from 4-18-2015, at about 25 seconds you will see the adult with the skull that has very large teeth. What do you think it is?
