C-101plowerpower 1,605 #1 Posted March 14, 2015 hi all, i've got myself some east german equipment. a VEB fimag generator with a VEB cunewalder diesel engine type 1 vd 8/8 sl. it doesn't run at the moment since there are some parts floating about in the sump very little compression and missing a few parts. all in all a nice project to do when i'm bored. oh and since you lot are a bit pic hungry here's some
nylyon-(Admin) 7,293 #2 Posted March 14, 2015 even though it doesn't run, that's a slick looking generator!

C-101plowerpower 1,605 #4 Posted March 15, 2015 got some more work done on the engine today, found out why bits of the governer were floating about in the sump. the culprit is this little piece here: that little piece was behind the big gear you see in these pics: when we got those things out we thought lets see why there is no compression so we put some oil down the bore. still no improvement so off came this piece then this piece: which doesn't look too healthy and off came this lot it soon became clear why there was such little compression, the piston rings were stuck right in the piston as can be seen here: the piston pin(is that the right word for the damn thing?) was almost completely stuck in the con rod, turns out there are a lot of burrs on there where the previous guy that worked on it hit it with something anyway time for a cuppa and a to not get too angry at that previous guy that's all for now
C-101plowerpower 1,605 #5 Posted March 15, 2015 i've had another look at it this evening and when i was turning the crank with the mounted pully it struck me, i still have one of those thingies you put in a drill and put a socket on. so i made this the socket on the end goes here: now i spin it at a reasonable speed and we were able to get it to produce 3 whole volts, sound a bit week but atleast we know the genny still produces "juice" now, here's some pic's of the genny part

C-101plowerpower 1,605 #8 Posted April 11, 2015 quick update, I haven't made a lot of progress, pretty much none actually, but i ordered something that will hopefully prove to be quite useful with ordering parts and putting it back together i think it is quite a find, an enlish repair manual for a east german engine that's all for now got my repair manual today some very usefull info in there, some not so usefull info. anyway here's the engine specs for you guys you guys remember those little dohickys from the governor that were broken? well i found some replacement parts, brand spanking new, well NOS actually I'm talking about these thingys hearing the engine run for the first time is getting closer now i need to search for some piston rings, don't suppose anyone has a set laying around, but if you do let me know
Sparky-(Admin) 21,337 #9 Posted April 12, 2015 So what is the generators output? I power my house with a 240/120 volt-7000w (8250 surge watts) generator. Is all your voltage over there 240 volt? Mike........
C-101plowerpower 1,605 #10 Posted April 13, 2015 yep, our mains is 240 and we have 400volts 3phase. the power output isn't that high on this genny, only about 3500w
C-101plowerpower 1,605 #11 Posted April 17, 2015 whohoo, found me some piston rings
C-101plowerpower 1,605 #12 Posted June 6, 2015 (edited) well finally an update on this machine. we found some more culprits of compression loss(being non existant really) the darn thing wasn't timed proparly also this didn't help either yep that's right that's one rather crusty exhaust valve oh and can you tell i'm dutch BUT, we found new valves online and got those yesterday we got those installed and after some lapping the fitted pretty nice then came the buttoning up part all buttoned up and no place to go and this evening it made some bloody noise Edited June 6, 2015 by C-101plowerpower
