HunterC6Vette 8 #1 Posted March 9, 2015 (edited) Well my 417 is up and running. Got it back from the shop and was able to do a few days of snow removal with it. The two stage is a beast at tossing the white stuff. Only down side was getting the entire thing stuck in the snow and dug into the pack when I got off the driveway. Ended up using my wife's Grand Cherokee to yank it out. Of course NOW the snow is now melting! Cant say that I'm all that disappointed to see the 180+" of snow and negative temps go away, but its got me thinking about summer projects for the 417 ... Here's what I've come up with so far. Keep in mind that the tractor had some serious "alternations" done to it including removing safety switches, removal of the PTO brake and the removal of the motion control brake lever. I'll try and get some photos up later so maybe I can get some ideas where I can find used parts. I'd really like to get it back to "functionally" correct. The shop I took it to had an entire shop basement FULL of WH salvage parts. I'm half tempted to talk with the owner and see if I can help him Ebay the stuff in return for parts for my horses. 1. Paint and body work. This includes filling some holes in the tins that some knucklehead drilled out and a gash in the hood. Paint should be an easy one since I work for Sherwin Williams ...I'll just take the spray can I have for touchup in and have them match a gallon for me. I think the Fast Production enamel should work well since its 1k and I can shoot using a spray gun. 2. PTO brake setup (used?) 3. Motion lever installed 4. Brake cable band installed 5. Why would there be an extra hole on the dash? ... It drives me crazy when people remove parts like BRAKES ...ugh...there was a reason they were installed in the FIRST PLACE! *also making the super wish list. Mower deck. I'd like to find a 48" side discharge deck for the horse. Seems like they are hard to come by but I'll keep checking online etc to see if I can come up with one. Anyone able to point me in the right direction? The shop I took it to suggested that I just leave the 312 as my lawn mower and the 417 with the 2 stage affixed. They said it takes a lot of work to get the blower setup on and off and wasnt worth the effort. Edited March 9, 2015 by HunterC6Vette

HunterC6Vette 8 #3 Posted March 10, 2015 Its going to be a lot of prep work. I'm holding off until all the snow is GONE before I start pulling it apart. It would be helpful if anyone could help me with part numbers for the missing stuff...
19richie66 17,530 #4 Posted March 10, 2015 I think the extra hole is where the choke should be mounted. It appears to be mounted in a bolt hole for the dash plate. I know what you mean about people hacking stuff. Do it right or leave it alone. I have a 418-a i am trying to get back up. Good luck with yours, Richie
Martin 2,133 #5 Posted March 10, 2015 that hole is something that was done by a previous owner. it looks like one of many holes that were put in afterwards, that isn't supposed to be there. you have quite a few holes in the seat pan as well from somebody mounting lights or similar........ looks like somebody went crazy with holes. the choke is in the correct spot as it sits right now in the pic. the choke knob doesn't look correct to me though, the knob was smaller..
HunterC6Vette 8 #6 Posted March 10, 2015 (edited) Suppose the good news is that I can grind smooth the hold and just put some bondo and stick over it... I'm pretty sure its an after market choke. Probably something from TSC or alike. its functional so I'll probably leave that alone for now. Edited March 10, 2015 by HunterC6Vette
clip 185 #7 Posted March 10, 2015 I'd get a welding spoon and fill the holes with a MIG, then sand smooth and use body filler. A little more work but worth it in my opinion. If using just body filler make sure to get the stuff with glass fiber in it.
jackhammer 546 #8 Posted March 10, 2015 Welcome C6 Whats under the hood?? Martin is right about the choke .. You will do well to find your horse about midway thru the page below http://www.partstree.com/parts/toro/mowers-lawn-garden-tractor/?pageNumber=1 Your horse is broken down entirely with most part numbers and diagrams. If you do anything drastic on your resto take a few pics first of everything you work on. Makes it easier to put back
