randyh 4 #1 Posted February 15, 2015 Three of my recently purchased WH all have had nails used in place of cotter pins or clips. Some wrapped with duct tape to hold them in place and others just bent around whatever they have been put through. Anything from finish nails to Spikes Just wondering what others have experienced. KC9KAS 4,741 #2 Posted February 15, 2015 (edited) My first father-in-law used nails to "tighten" up battery post connections! He was a farmer....crude at times! Edited February 15, 2015 by KC9KAS

callum12 256 #5 Posted February 15, 2015 not on a WH but on my lister D i had to use a paper clip instead of a split/ cotter pin, worked great!

rmaynard 15,722 #7 Posted February 15, 2015 In a pinch, you use what you have. I have used nails instead of cotter pins many times, then I bought a pack of assorted hairpin cotter pins and haven't used a nail or regular cotter pin for that matter since.
can whlvr 993 #8 Posted February 16, 2015 I too like bob have used nails many times and still will today,a good spike has a far better shear strength than most of the cheap pins out there today
RedRanger 1,468 #9 Posted February 16, 2015 My dad also used nails in battery posts all the time when I was a kid. I once used a 16 penny nail as a fix for a tire punctured by a smaller nail.
