Solex 27 #1 Posted February 11, 2015 Good Afternoon Red Square: My 308-8 winter project continues and I am looking at upgrading the old and worn and cracked tires on this machine. Stock tires measure 15x6x6 on the front, and 22x7.5x12 on the rear. My questions are as follows: How wide of a tire can I mount on these stock rims? How wide can I go on the front and back without sticking out too far? (I know that this is a matter of opinion). How tall of a tire can I go with? I was thinking of stepping up to a 23 inch rear AG tire, but just for looks because I only mow with this machine. Please feel free to comment, and any pictures would be a plus. Many Thanks, we must have 3.5 feet of snow on the ground up here in NH and it will be around until May!
Sparky-(Admin) 21,544 #2 Posted February 12, 2015 Pretty sure a 23x8.50x12 is as big as you can go on the rear rims, anything wider will give you ballooning which means less rubber on the ground. Before you increase the fronts, what mower deck do you have? If its the 37" side discharge you need to stick with the same size rims/tires. Mike........ ericj 1,578 #3 Posted February 12, 2015 you can go to a 23x9.50x12 on the rear and because of difference of size between manufactures you may be able to go to 23x10.50x12 tire. it might be easier to pick one or two tires you like and check back and see if the board here thinks they will fit your rims eric j
Solex 27 #4 Posted February 12, 2015 The 37 inch discharge deck is exactly what I have. So it appears that I am going to have to stick close to the stock size?

Unless you plan on using a 36 or 42 inch deck then yes...you're stuck with those teeny little doughnuts up front Edited February 12, 2015 by Hodge71

can whlvr 993 #7 Posted February 13, 2015 I have a 308 that I changed the tire size on(I don't have a 37 anymore, sold it long ago)but when I did I changed the spindles for the front, the 6 inch rims use a longer spindle than the 8 inch, keeps it a bit more level,so look at the bright side you wont have purchase new spindles
