International harvester hi-trans

Has anyone ever run hi trans in their 8 pinion transmissions? It is thinner than gear oil, we used it in our cub puller rear ends ( less resistance). Seems to stand up to the punishment of the large farm tractors.

Was it hard on the seals?

Sorry I should have said Case International. No, you need to make sure your seals are good, having a lower viscosity. I ran it in everything from stock altered to pro-stock with no issues.

its good stuff, been around a long time. I think that's what I'm going to put it in. I've got a spare tranny just in case.

If you talk to the Old F____ they will always tell to use what the manufacture specified, that's why you have these tractors that are properly maintained lasting 50 + yrs

I agree i would use what they are originally call for or whatever is closest. I wouldn't risk ruining an old transmission that has nothing wrong with it.

I chk it once a year, simply drain a bit  of the oil if it is black and clean I leave it alone (add if require) again this is what the Old timers told me to do..... if you have any condensation or water in the oil then I drain flush with some diesel and/or kerosene and add clean new oil according to that tractor's manufactures specs.
