cruisnblue48 835 #4 Posted February 7, 2015 (edited) Ron, that's a great idea keeping a registry of the Seniors and Lever Steers. Do you know how many were originally manufactured and/or are estimated to exist today compared to the number actually registered so far? Do you know how many were originally manufactured and/or are estimated to exist today compared to the number actually registered so far? From memory I heard that around 500 seniors were built but not sure if that would include the lever steers though. Big-Game 91 #14 Posted February 8, 2015 Hello Everyone, I will do another update later this week, but for now WOW !! We were at 26 Seniors, I hope to confirm that we may hit 30 + Seniors !! I will keep everyone posted ! To answer a few questions, I don't think the exact number of Seniors and Lever Steers produced will ever be known unless production figures are found. With that being said I was told an estimated 50 of each model were still left ?? That is not a lot, is it possible we can find these 100 tractors or the majority of them. By the amazing response you have given the answer is yes ! We are more then half way to finding the estimated 50 Seniors. The Lever Steers are moving slow but they are moving !! Information collected, Name & Contact info, City & State, Tractor & Year if known. This is all we need to put on the list, ALL personal information will be kept PRIVATE. Since I have a Senior and know nothing about them, I look to this club and the years of knowledge all its members hold to help me and others do our best to keep our tractors running so we can ride them show them and share them with the rest of the world. Thank you ALL !! Ron Greco rsgreco@embarqmail.com

Big-Game 91 #17 Posted February 8, 2015 (edited) I removed the hood from my Senior today, I wrote down the serial number (2443669) found on the Wisconsin engine and looked it up to confirmed the date April 1 thru May 1 1955. I then went to the Senior registry and looked up serial numbers people have given with their information. I am Happy to report that my Senior has a big brother #2443662 living in New York !! nylyon-(Admin) 7,275 #19 Posted February 11, 2015 Gary Pond (Cecil's son) sent me the following: The last lever steer that I saw was one at the National Collectors show was photographed with my son in Arnhem, PA near Gettysburg. I'm sure there are others. Michael Martino the author of the Wheel Horse Story may know of others. I once sent that photo to Red Square, so you may still have I it...I may be able to find it and/or my son might have a copy if you want it. The picture is here somewhere, I'll try to find it. The above photo shows 4th generation Jonathon Pond with a tractor that his Great-Granddad Elmer Pond designed. 6
nylyon-(Admin) 7,275 #20 Posted February 13, 2015 If anyone is nearby and can check, that would add another to the list maybe? Another note from Gary Pond: Yes, this was taken at the 2nd Book Signing of Straight From the Horse’s Mouth – the Wheel Horse Story.. Sorry, I was thinking this was a tiller steering tractor, I can now see it wasn’t. Memories can be tricky. I’m wondering if the Studebaker Museum in South Bend has this model. I have not been there for years (Now a new building on Chapin St) but they used to have a Wheel Horse display with other previous SB companies My son Jonathon was very close to his Grand Dad. Big-Game 91 #21 Posted February 13, 2015 Hello everyone, I am just overwhelmed by the emails. The Seniors are off and running and today we have 31 confirmed on the list, with Ohio having the most at 9. The Levers are still at 14 with the breakdown as: 6 in Ohio, 5 in Michigan, 2 in Illinois and 1 in Indiana. I am wondering if anyone else finds that strange that only 14 Lever Steers are on the list and they are in 4 states ?? I know there are more members out there with them, lets put them on the list. The only way to record the serial number on a hooded Senior with a Wisconsin engine is to remove the hood . I did this recently, and as the people that have done it before can tell you it takes a little time and patience. My serial number 2443669 was made April - May 1955, looking over the registry I found serial number 2404933 made Feb - Mar 1955 & 2443662 made April - May 1955. This tractor the same month as mine and is only 7 away from mine. With this kind of information the registry may be able to get a idea of how many tractors they produced each month or a close estimate. I also have number 2667669 Oct - Nov 1956. If anyone would like to know the date their Wisconsin engine 1936 - 1959 or Briggs 1933 - 1958 was built let me know I will look it up for you, Thank you Clyde Potts for giving me this information to pass along ! I am working on tracking down leads like the tractors possibly in the Studebaker Museum. I have also received names that once confirmed my take the Seniors over the 40 mark !! I ask everyone to keep an eye out this year at the shows write down the owners information or have them contact me so we don't loose the tractors that started it all, our history is our future ! Thanks again to everyone for all the help !! Ron Greco rsgreco@embarqmail.com
