416-H Eaton Transmission Suction Tube

So now that I have the hoodstand removed. I began cleaning the transmission to see where all the oil was coming from. I am more convinced than ever that the previous owner spilled oil when topping off the transmission, and did not have the filter on tight. 

 

However, after cleaning off layers of oil, dirt and grass, I removed the crud from the suction tube and discovered this:

 

 

I don't know how or when that happened, but it is not leaking. 

 

Is this a big problem waiting to happen?

Id say from my point of view it looks like the pulley or something was rubbing but id replace it

I had something similar on Marvin. If I remember right, the idler or the linkage for it caused it. May even been the belt. It was misaligned and bouncing all over.I had the linkage beefed up and was replacing the trans anyway.

I didn't notice it until I had the entire hoodstand and associated parts removed. After I replace the tube and start putting the tractor back together, I will see what could have done the damage.

Replace immediately!!

 

The only thing second to contamination in destroying a hydraulic pump is sucking air and causing cavitation.  If it is leaking out then you can be sure it is leaking air in and pulling in moisture and dirt as well.  Hopefully you have caught it before too much damage has been caused.  A hydraulic shop can bend you a new one if you take it in, or just find a used one.

Thanks for the replies. Fortunately, no leak in the tube. Used tube has been purchased.
