1975 C 120 Special

Recommended Posts

I have disassembled a 1975 C 120 Special to clean and repaint. I was not paying attention when I removed the engine from the engine/frame adapter plate. It looks like I have 4 options in putting it back together. Could someone post pictures of their setup so I will not have to try all of them or at least give me a starting point.

I have a 74 C-120 which complies fully with the 1975 C series parts manual.  I don't know if you have an HH120 or a Kohler K301 in yours, but here is a thread link with loads of pics if it helps-

Edit - sorry lost link for a moment.

I have a Tecky. I took some Pict and as you can see Blue tape down will bolt to the Frame and Blue tape up will not. So that narrows it down to 2 choices. BTW you did an excellent job in your Restoration.

By looking at an HH100 that I have with a mounting plate the tape goes to the rear.

I have a OH160 Tecky on my 160 and the plate appears the same. Your first picture(blue tape rear) is correct. The plate is drilled for two different options on the Tecky engines. Some had balance gears which make the pto side cover of the block deeper (about 2.5 inches). These engines use the left set of holes because of the deeper cover and the longer crankshaft. The ones without the balance gears had and shallower cover and consequently moved the engine over to the right (right set of holes). My 160 has the balance gears, but not all the 120's did.
