found a cast iron tecumseh

Recommended Posts

Bert

Picked this up about 1 min up the road, it was on a troy bilt tiller with electric start and a complete charging system. It runs great!

I didn't realize it was cast iron till I got it home and noticed rust by the exhaust, so I got a magnet and it stuck to the block.

Ive heard they were out there but had never seen one :) I think this will be a nice repower for the work horse 700 or the 653, can't decide which yet though  :eusa-think: I like the idea of stock apearance with some extra weight and durability. post-12350-0-05471600-1417910063_thumb.j

Very, very nice score Bert.  I have one on my 657.

I can take better pics of the decal on the engine if you like or this pic blows up pretty big.  The decal had a big "XL" on it with "Extra Life" under it then "Cast Iron" under that.

Yes Id like to get some close up pics if you wouldn't mind? It looks like the same decal thats on my HH100. Also would like to see the carb and cable setup. This one is a lil different then the wheel horse setup and i was wondering if id need to trade from my tired work horse 700 engine? Thanks

The standard motor for Troy Bilt tillers in the days prior to being bought out used HH series (Cast Iron) Techumsehs, they had an optional 7 hp Kohler.

My 67 Lawn Ranger had a HH60 block from a troy built when I first rebuilt it.  About the only difference is the blower housing is a bit more square and of coarse those two ugly bolt holes in the front for the front mount tank. The throttle assembly is a bit different as well but I had an orriginal to put on it.   I pulled the motor because it smoked badly and I was tired of fixing the dang thing.  I started to rebuild a Kohler K181 for it but never finished it.

Hope these are good enough, I cant get the hood up all the way as it is buried in the back of a row.  I can plan to get it out if you need more pics.  :)

You can click on them to enlarge them.

So I guess I will be trading some parts from my tired h70. Thanks for the pics Geno, that decal looks like the one on my HH100. I wonder if they are still available?

I don't know.  Maybe Terry can make one from a good Hi-res pic like he does some other stuff, I'm not sure though.  Wouldn't hurt to ask.  Does your decal look better than mine?

Ive had my HH100 and H60 for years and haven't had to fix the dang things :laughing-rofl: , hope this HH60 serves me well to.

I may have to ask him bout it. Yours is much better than mine, not much left and it was on the fuel tank not the blower housing.

If you get it worked out with Terry let me know or ask Terry to let me know and I'll send him a Hi-res pic of mine.

I have never been up close to an H70, but a few years ago I took some shots comparing an HH60 to an H60.

One thing I liked about the HH60 was the bearing on the PTO end of the crank.

Note that this H60 was an electric start motor with a fuel pump, the HH60 was a recoil start with no fuel pump.

Geno, I'll talk to Terry about the decal after the holidays. I think I read someplace that he's busy this time of year and this is more of a want than a need. A pic of yours would be great, like I mentioned mine is in bad shape. Thanks for the offer.

Sorekiwi, great pics, looks like most of the parts will interchange.

This summarizes the differences.  Valves could interchange, same size just different materials

Geno the XL like this     th_657comeshome008_zps9a8c9482.jpg     see the original underneath  is not the original engine it should have the balloon emblem. That would be a HH60 engine.

There's still a few Cast Iron Tecumsehs out there.   Been picking them up for parts and projects...all of them are HH60's.   perfect size for my little tractors :)
