270-H hydraulic/Electric lift conversion ... is it possible ?

Recommended Posts

270-h

is it possible to convert the standard snowblower lift mechanism to hydroelectric set up.
there is something wrong with my manual one .. it is very very hard and heavy to raise up .. I can almost guarantee you that 30% of your average men could not even do it .. it is that hard and heavy ...
if I didn't know better I would say the lift assist Spring is hooked on backwards..
I got a good deal on it used ...... so I thought maybe I would invest the money I saved into a hydraulic electric lift system

does anyone know if this can be done ?

it wouldn't be so bad if the spring lock for the up position worked .... but it does not ..

the thumb button does not walk in anywhere as it should ...

as heavy as it is ... I have to hold it up to move the tractor around

Is this a 270-H tractor or do you want to add the 270-H hydro/electric lift to another model tractor?

 it is a 270 H ...

but doesn't have the hydroelectric option ...it has a long  manually operated lift handle for the snowblower ..

which requires extreme strength to lift and the lock button does not work

Any chance you have the model numbers and serial numbers for the tractor and snowthower? Would like to look at the manuals and not familiar with this model.

the snow attachment is model number 79263

The ID tag that is supposed to be under the seat is gone ... so I have no idea what specific model or year of the 270 H is.

The dedication tag is even gone from the Kohler engine ...

The history of the tractor is unknown to the old lady I bought it from .. apparently her husband bought it used over a decade ago ..

from the pictures it does look to be the K61A transaxle as opposed to the hydra-gear 3000 ... as those were the only two options for the 270-H series

but from what I can tell the frame / chassis and all linkage parts look to be identical between all eight or nine models in the 270-h line ...

and upon my limited knowledge of comparisons the only difference between it and the 270 HE is , in fact,  the Hydro electric lift system as opposed to the manual one they all even have 20 horse Kohlers

and all the models seem to offer the same part numbers or attachments

I have  surmised what little I do know from this web link you  posted over on MyTractorForum.

Were you able to do this? I've been interested in doing this to my raider.

no I was not..

but I finally tracked down the Hydro electric lift online ..

but they cost is almost $1500 for just the motor/actuator

throw in the different brackets and mounting accessories ...

almost 2 grand for everything ... way beyond my price range

see here:

there are some complete garden tractors you can buy on craigslist for that much money

that already have hydraulic lift mechanisms

I did however realize that most of the lifting difficulty was due to a worn out front hitch

mounting / swivel  bracket ...

replacing that has made the lift mechanism much easier to operate...

by all means ..please let me know .

I would not mind any of the rework or re-bracketing that would be necessary ..

but there's no way I can afford that actuator ..

I hope you're getting a good deal on it... and good luck

cheers n beers

There is a lift assist spring for them.  I just bought a 264 with the spring.  I must note that the owner said it didn't help much but he also said it fell off both times he tried it.  Probably didn't have it on right either!
