daveoman1966 3,738 #2 Posted November 26, 2014 Hands down... 1976 or 77 C-160 Auto. 2nd choice... Bronco 14 circa 1972 73
RMCIII 838 #3 Posted November 26, 2014 just seeing whats your opinion on the best pre 1980 wheel horse model Well, that depends on what "best" refers to... Best mowing, best versatility, best riding comfort? If it is just versatility, I'd have to go with a "D" series. Rob
MalMac 1,331 #4 Posted November 26, 2014 I would have to go with the 78-79 "C" series. They were a mix of the earlier C's and set the foundation for modern tractor all the way up until the end of the run of Wheel Horse's, They were the what you would call the bread and butter or Back Bone for Wheel Horse.
rmaynard 15,309 #5 Posted November 26, 2014 My vote is for the 1976/1977 B/C Series (B-80, B-100, C-120, C-160), 8-Speeds. I think they were the best looking, and overall toughest machines made.
RMCIII 838 #6 Posted November 26, 2014 B/C Before Corporation takeover!
Ken B 3,134 #7 Posted November 26, 2014 Best all around round hood IMHO is the 854. I'm not sayin it's the rarest but the best all around.. Then I'd have to say the C-series... The hood's on the black hood C-125's thru 175's were solid, they closed nicely and didn't rattle...
RMCIII 838 #8 Posted November 26, 2014 Ha! I am sure this has already been mentioned..... Clinton had Kenny G, but we got Kenny B! Rob
scotty 252 #9 Posted November 26, 2014 Im going to have to go with a b-80 mostly due to the fact the motor is not overkill and for me has all the power for mowing and plowing that i would need.
Don1977 604 #10 Posted November 26, 2014 My vote is for the 1976/1977 B/C Series (B-80, B-100, C-120, C-160), 8-Speeds. I think they were the best looking, and overall toughest machines made. I like the 1967 /1977 best.

ben06351 19 #16 Posted November 27, 2014 My favorite is the B-80, think mine is a 1976. It's a great machine, nimble and powerful. I love the 8 speed transmission.

RJR49 129 #20 Posted November 27, 2014 I have not had as many as a lot of forum members. But having gone from a 1045 to a C-160 with many in between I feel qualified to say the C-160 Auto is the best. Slight advantage over the C-161 because the hydraulics and some of the other parts are not hidden. My not look as nice all exposed but easier to maintain
boovuc 1,090 #21 Posted November 28, 2014 Any C series with the 16 horse Kohler under the hood!
Molon_Labe 731 #22 Posted November 28, 2014 My '79 C-161 Auto (Kohler) has done everything I've asked of it from mowing the yard to plowing the garden and now pushing snow. Love the C series.
Tim 97 #23 Posted November 30, 2014 the 70 to early 80 C series after that they started getting more and more complicated to work on with (don't take this wrong) safety switches and more complicated wiring to go wrong as they got older just became harder to trouble shoot
Shuboxlover 476 #24 Posted November 30, 2014 78-79 C-1X1 I like having the gas tank under the seat, the hydraulic valve is "hidden" and the battery is more accessible. And they look amazing also!!!!!!!!!
