David Hart 0 #3 Posted November 8, 2014 I went to advanced auto parts and asked but they said that they don't think anyone carries type A any more.
Geno 1,929 #4 Posted November 8, 2014 Type A is what eventually became Dexron, Dexron III is backward compatible with type A.
TT-(Moderator) 1,131 #5 Posted November 8, 2014 You will also want to verify the current fluid & hydro type regardless of what was originally recommended. It's not uncommon to see tractors with Sundstrand Hydrogear units that were switched over to motor oil.
bowtieguy 334 #6 Posted November 9, 2014 My local farm coop (MFA Oil C) has supplied Type A for years and still do.....the old Case tractors (800 series) used Type A in the power steering and the hydraulic control system....I still use Type A....does that make me "old school"?.....yepper!!!
stevasaurus 22,528 #7 Posted November 10, 2014 TT is correct...if the oil is red...it is Type "A" or Dexron III. If it looks like regular motor oil "golden", it is probably 10W-30.
