JustinW.73 224 #1 Posted November 5, 2014 I have a raider 12 and was wondering were I can get decals for it. It is the 1973 no name tractor. And what is the best looking and toughest paint that is close to the original wheel horse paint. Thanks ~Justin

Save Old Iron 1,566 #6 Posted November 5, 2014 Hey Justin, the best way to answer your question is to ask you other questions. When you mean best, are you intending the finished tractor to be a worker or just something you polish once a month and leave in the garage with a cover on it? This will separate auto finish products from farm implement quality paint. If you decide auto finish, you will need a substantial compressor and decent spray gun - and acquired painting skills if you don't have experience with a spray gun, This route gets high $$ very quickly. Farm implement paint or Rustoleum can be sprayed from rattle cans or spray guns. Both paints will finish out very nicely and are easily repairable when - not if - something damages the finish. Damage will happen if you use the tractor. The only consistent warning I hear - and have no personal experience with - is regarding the Majic brand paint at TSC. I have used the spray cans with good results but most folks will caution you against using the bulk quart or gallons. So the question becomes what is the intended level of finish and how much $$$ do you have for this part of the project? Your answer will set you off in the right direction without wasting hours reading posts with "I think it's great , I think it sucks" conflicting opinions. And remember, when the inevitable parade of tractor pictures follows in the days to come, EVERYTHING looks great in pictures taken 10 foot away from the tractor. Don't use pictures as a starting point for your decision.

rmaynard 15,720 #8 Posted November 5, 2014 This link might be helpful. A lot depends on how you are going to paint. Spray cans or spray gun. Indoors or outside. How much you are will to spend, and how much experience to you have painting. If you don't get the answers you need from the link above, feel free to search "paint". You will find a lot of opinions on product, color, and technique. Above all else, there is no one who will criticize your choice of color. If it's red it's good. And...please use good breathing protection, even if using off-the-shelf spray cans. Paint can do a lot of damage to your lungs and nervous system. The effects of which may not be realized until much later in life. Good luck!
