64s 83 #2 Posted November 5, 2014 I just started looking into it about a month ago. Still torn about the type of plant I want to grow, but will have to make up my mind in a few weeks as I started building a special plant stand for it. Do you currently do Bonsai, and if so, any recommendations?
eddiebunyan 24 #3 Posted November 7, 2014 I do. I'm no expert and like anyone,I've lost a few plants over the years and the ones I have probably would be frowned on by experts but it's a constant learning experiance for me.I planted two seeds from a leucaena tree a friends mother had given me when my daughter was born. One I bonsai'd and one I let grow normally. Both are still alive and my daughter is now 21 One is about12" high and the other I keep cut down to six feet so I can get it in the house for winter. The trunks on both are about the same width! You can use any plant that has a "woody" stem. I think it's more rewarding to start your own from seed then to by one already 10 years old but that's just my opinion.Perhaps a tree that grows in your yard or surrounding area that you like.Go online and you'll see that there is an endless variety..What kind of stand?Flat,Tall? I want to do that myself.I have a good amount of red oak left over from building our house(trim) and plan to use it for stands. ED
