BryanRTenn 11 #1 Posted November 2, 2014 Just want to say this forum is great, I have been lurking here for over 6 months, what a wealth of information!! I repair small engines, mowers, tillers, etc... What I mainly do is buy, refurbish, & sale. I had NEVER owned a wheel horse until back in April I acquired a 1993 416-H with the Onan dirt cheap that was in mint condition. It had sat in a barn for the last 10 years or so. I spent roughly $200 on it & it was like new. I sold it & took a 416-8 in on trade that was ROUGH!!! It also has the Onan which I'm quiet fond of. Well, I had no intentions of 'fixing' it per say, but the more I looked at it, & the more small things I did, & the more I read on here & saw all your pics & the love there are for these tractors I dove into it & now I'm hooked. In fact I just found a c-81 with a blade sitting in front of an old barn yesterday, I pulled in & 20 minutes later I was loading it on my trailer. This 416-8 I have has no attachments, no deck, nothing, heck, it didnt even have a hood when I got it. So I've been trying to find a good deal on a snow blade for it. So when I saw this one close to home I thought I was in the money. But the guy wouldn't sale me just the blade so I bought the whole tractor & now my mind is going crazy thinking about what to do with it. Anyway, just wanted to say what a great forum & I will be jumping in now & asking LOTS of questions because these beasts are all new to me but I love em! I'll throw in a few pics of the 416-H I sold, the 416-8 Im working on & the c-81 I just bought
slammer302 2,155 #3 Posted November 2, 2014 You might think I'm crazy but if that c-81 runs good it would be the one I would be using you can't beat those little Kohler's good on gas cheap and easy to work on! Welcome to Red Square!!!! I know the onans sound great and have all kinds of power its hard to denie that though

BryanRTenn 11 #6 Posted November 2, 2014 Oh I know, the little Kohlers are hard to beat. I'm gonna put the blade on the 416 & sale it, don't know what I'm gonna do with the C yet. I hate to sale any of em but thats the business I'm in. I invest money in em & can't really afford to keep 'em but would love to have one with a blade for use around the ponderosa lol. We just got 6" of snow here on Halloween night.
BryanRTenn 11 #7 Posted November 2, 2014 I like the c81 because its older. Someone has crudely primered it, but it seems to all be there, don't know if the Kohler runs but seems complete, gonna throw a battery in it Sunday & see what happens. A couple hours disassembling, couple hours with my glass bead blaster, and some IH red it will be sharp!
slammer302 2,155 #8 Posted November 2, 2014 Give the carb a quick cleaning and it will probably run sometimes if they've been setting along time you might have to run sum sand paper through the points I got one that had been setting 9years put gas in it and it fires right up
BryanRTenn 11 #9 Posted November 2, 2014 I just want to see if it will turn over then I will go through it good. I wish you could just change the coil on a Kohler like a Briggs to convert to electronic ignition. I always do away with points on Briggs, havent messed with many of these old Kohlers, Ive had a few & a few Clintons with points that seem to do well with points though. Im not a purist when it comes to common sense performance & whenever you can replace moving parts with an electronic signal it just makes sense its gonna be better lol

BryanRTenn 11 #13 Posted November 2, 2014 I ordered some decals from Terry & they are awesome. Real quality & he is great to work with. He makes sure you get what you need, especially for a newbie like me. This tractor had no serial # or model # on it so I wasnt exactly sure what it was lol. I just know it seemed identical to the 416-h I had except its an 8 speed

BryanRTenn 11 #21 Posted November 6, 2014 Got the hood on it, tried to make some hood hinges but they are not right, won't let the hood catch so I will get a pattern off the c81 & make some. Putting Terrys decals on the hood is a little intimidating. Will tackle that later. Also have to wire up a harness for the headlights

Kennedy 90 #23 Posted November 15, 2014 Welcome to the site. What part of TN are you from if you dont mind me asking? I have family all down the I-75 corridor, from Maynardville (although we sometimes disown them) to Chattanooga. Mark
BryanRTenn 11 #24 Posted November 16, 2014 Kennedy, I'm from northeast TN, just outside of Bristol. Went down to Knoxville yesterday to watch the VOLS lay a beatdown on KY. I've about got this thing ready, keep having small problems. I had to fabricate a different bracket to get the plow off the C81 to work on it, just where the handle attaches. Also, it was a wiring nightmare & I'm not good with electrical but with some help from friends I got most of it worked out. The idiot light panel doesn't work exactly like it should, it needs some electrical ends fixed right in it. Also, my voltmeter was working fine, then it started reading higher than it should (10 when off, 14 with key on, and all way to right when running) then all the sudden it did a full sweep & is just stuck all the way at the top. Any suggestions??? Both wires are on it in the right place. It seems all problems lead back to the idiot light circuit board. Heres some pics & dad trying it out pushing some gravels back in the driveway
