Jake Kuhn 1,556 #77 Posted February 14, 2015 A little update on the 59... Got the belt guard and frame primed and ready to be sanded going to work on them tomorrow. Also ran into an issue with the motor, got it all back together and tried to start it and had no compression, come to find out the shop forgot to set the valves when the ground them....kind of dissapointed in them for that, but the other work they did was nice. Anyways, to fix it just ended up using a local friends valve grinder and setting them, after that it fired right up and runs well! Here's a shot of it back together, can't put it together the rest of the way until I get parts plated, hopefully I will get them back by next weekend

Pullstart 63,201 #83 Posted March 23, 2015 how many are you working on consecutively? On the small Kohler engines, how much work is involved to get the valves out for regrind?
Jake Kuhn 1,556 #84 Posted March 23, 2015 Thanks guys, and I've currently got 3 apart restoring, and several other projects torn apart...I seem to have a hard time just doing one project at a time. lol As far as removing valves its not tough, just have to remove breather and head and undo the pins that hold them in,(at least thats how k91's are, I'm not sure if bigger engines are different. And a valve spring compressor would be a nice tool to have, but you can do it with just a couple screwdrivers too.
Jake Kuhn 1,556 #85 Posted February 9, 2016 Its been a while but finally getting back on this project hopefully finish it this spring. The hood and steering wheel are all that I believe are left to paint and I think I am going to put bushings in the steering like I did on the 56 so I may have to repaint them again. Anyways only pictures I have to show right now.... The hood was a really rough one to start with it will never be perfect around where the wheel horse is because it was smashed in, but I'm going to try to make it the best I can. Started off by beadblasting it and then welded up some cracks in it with a new silicon bronze might welder my dad bought. Next had one of the guys at the body shop spend some time hammer and dolleying on it, he is a lot better at it than me or my dad are. And started filling it today, still needs some more done to it before I'm done with it but off to a good start All I have to show for now..Thanks, Jake

Jake Kuhn 1,556 #90 Posted February 10, 2016 Thanks guys, and I also have the 400 apart too, hopefully finish that and this about the same time. They are both pretty much at the same point. Did a little more work on the hood today but didn't get any pictures, hopefully just 1 more light coat tomorrow to fix a few imperfections and it will be done and ready for primer. Don't know of any 59s for sale anywhere at the moment. Jake

Jake Kuhn 1,556 #93 Posted April 3, 2016 Haven't done so well keeping up with my updates, but anyways here is another 1. After doing more of these transmissions I realized there were some more mistakes I made on the trans I redid for this tractor, I put new style gears in and in order to do that I need to put a couple washers in between the case and a mushroom gear, as well as I wished I had flipped the axles as the ones in it wobbled back and forth which I'm sure would of leaked. I had a good trans and bearing set laying around so I just decided to build it, it was quicker than going back and fixing this 1. I will go back through this 1 soon and keep it around for a spare. Here is the trans I built for it. Body work on the hood was finished up early this week and yesterday painted the frame and hood. along with the new trans. And today I began assembly...was able to get it just about done. Tomorrow I need to get a different length belt and touch up the paint in a few places and it should be done other than decals which I haven't bought yet. I also may add a set of fenders to it but I kind of like the look without them for now. Thanks, Jake
