Jake Kuhn 1,556 #51 Posted December 8, 2014 Thanks Bob, and yes I had it turned .010 under and bought a .010 under rod for it. Put the engine back together today, went pretty well. I also, tore apart and siliconed the trans last night, that went well too, but it should of for being the 7th or 8th time I took it apart. lol I hope to get some stuff painted this week, but I may end up priming and sanding some more stuff first so I can spray it all at the same time. These are all ready for another coat of primer And these aren't the best pictures, but what you see here is ready for a coat of paint along with the engine, frame, and hood for my 57

Jake Kuhn 1,556 #54 Posted December 22, 2014 (edited) Here's a little update on the 59. Started painting some stuff on friday, got some done, but not everything. Also reprimed the other parts and got them sanded and ready for paint. I'm going to merge the 57 with this thread for now, as its all getting painted together at the same time. Today I put the 57 frame back together and glued some tank straps in it. Anyways here's some pictures of whats been painted, and the stuff that was reprimed/sanded. Hope to have most of this stuff painted by the end of the week. Gear case cover back on These were painted, but got messed up a little bit, so they were scuffed and will get repainted The tank straps glued in, I've done this on several tractors now, and it has worked well. And some shiny red parts(In case your wondering, yes this is my closet. ) The top 2 pictures are for the 57 and bottom 2 or for the 59 Will add more pictures as more stuff gets painted Edited December 22, 2014 by Jake Kuhn

clueless 3,012 #65 Posted January 3, 2015 Jake, what are you gluing the tank straps with, and what do you use for straps? Chris.
Jake Kuhn 1,556 #66 Posted January 7, 2015 Chris, sorry just saw your post now, it is a 3m 2 part epoxy glue, part number is 08115, it is not very cheap though, we use it at our body shop so had it on hand, you may be able to take it to a shop and see if they wouldn't charge you much for just a little. I bought a sheet of metal the same thickness of the original straps and got had some pieces sheered to the correct width.
stevebo-(Moderator) 8,363 #67 Posted January 7, 2015 Great job Jake. My restored 58 has both straps broken off. I do not want to weld then I need to repaint so... I am going to try your method of epoxy. One thing that I have learned is to build a tank support on my RJs. While on the trailer going to shows is where the most stress occurs. I got to a show one time only to find my gas tank broken off. I cannot find a pic but I simply use a threaded rod and fab up a connection on both ends. One goes to the bolt under the front tank strap and the other goes down to the bolt that holds the front of the hood to the frame. It is not original but should have been.....

Jake Kuhn 1,556 #71 Posted January 19, 2015 (edited) Been putting off working on the belt guard for a while now. It was in really bad shape. It had some major dents in it and the hole the crankshaft goes through was worn very big and to an oval. My dad helped me today, and we ended up drilling out and welding in a washer around the hole for the crankshaft. From the side you see its hard to tell its even been repaired, not so nice on the backside, but thats covered up. I'm very happy with the way it turned out, especially with what it started as. A quick beadblasting before wiping on some bondo Some bondo on it, not the prettiest, but it worked And sanded It needs another coat on the top and will be ready for primer.
