stumpkicker 0 #4 Posted January 12, 2009 I am new to this site as of today! So I am hoping this is going to Sparky! I am Jimmy G I have a snow blower mounting question please. On your snow blower install pictures the second and third picture where the rod with the flat steel hooks to the (Black bracket) I don't have that hook up on my tractor. Was wondring if you might know the name of the bracket or dementions so that I might make one. I had it all hooked up untill I tried to find out where to attach the long pipe with the bracket at the end then I gave up and put the plow on instead. Thanks Hoping I am not a bother as I am new here. Thank You JimmyG
Sparky-(Admin) 21,403 #5 Posted January 12, 2009 The part your missing is called a Lift Flag. Somewhere on this site are dimensions for it.....just cant remember where. If I find the post with dimensions I'll add it here. Mike.......

thehorse 221 #10 Posted November 7, 2013 Quick question.... What do you hook the lift assist spring to...I'm taking pics this year!!!
squonk 41,312 #11 Posted November 7, 2013 (edited) Spring hooks to an eyebolt which goes through the hole on the flag (adjustment point) and the footrest/floorboard rod on the front end. Edited November 7, 2013 by squonk
Scotsman 46 #12 Posted December 1, 2013 On a related note,I just finished installing my snowblower on my 312-8 which was going smooth until my chute cable snapped and unraveled. Then I spent 2 hours trying in vain to put it back on and rotate the chute . After all the stuff I have done to my 312-8, it's madness! So before I posted I did something I'v been meaning to do for a while and took off the 4 chute bolts and greased it nicely. Mine is the single stage. i'll put some pics on tomorrow. Scotsman 46 #13 Posted December 1, 2013 I forgot to say I haven't figured out how to run the cable. Does anyone know how to wrap the cable through the hole and around the rod in the correct way? Thanks in advance. It seemed so simple, maybe it will be after I see the correct way.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,090 #14 Posted December 1, 2013 Last year for the cable was 1990. Here is a 1984-87 manual which had a spool on the crank. The 1st models did not have a spool and the hole was in the crank. Hope this is the style you have. Here is an earlier manual with different illustrations Garry
wallfish 17,078 #15 Posted December 1, 2013 (edited) The spool or rod pulls one side as it lets out the other. Attach one end of the cable to the chute but leave an extra couple of inches for final adjustment. Rotate the chute by hand all the way towards the opposite side of which ever side you just attached the cable to. Route the cable to the spool or rod and wrap it one time around the spool and feed the cable through the hole. Keep in mind that you want the handle to turn the same direction as the chute needs to move. While keeping tension on the loose cable, rotate the spool or rod until the chute travels the full distance to the other side. Wrap the cable one more time around and route the cable to the other attaching point on the chute and lock it down. Test the rotation of the chute to make sure it can travel the full distance. Tighten up the cable tension if necessary. Cut off extra cable at attaching points after everything is working correctly. It can be a pain to keep enough tension on the cables while spooling them. It's unnecessary to wrap the spool or rod one extra time with the cable but it leaves enough spare cable to make adjustments in the future if needed. A little grease on the cable and the friction points on the chute helps smooth it all out. Edited December 1, 2013 by wallfish

Scotsman 46 #20 Posted December 15, 2013 Well thanks for the help guys I got the chute cable sorted out. Now today I was so exited to use it,but it would not throw the snow. The auger stopped turning. Its a 312-8 It should be plenty of power. So I tried to push the heavy wet snow with the snowblower , and my cotter pin on the lift arm under the snowblower kept ripping out. Its the biggest cotter pin that will fit. I have a plow, its a 6-2132 will it fit my late 80's 312-8?
thehorse 221 #21 Posted December 15, 2013 Your snow removal experiences sound like mine! First time blowing snow this season and the key on the Marin blower pulley sheared off. Off to Ace....man I love that place! Then last night the lift arm was not functioning. The hitch pin must have rotated around some or scraped it off the edge of one of the driveways. Well thank God I've been getting an extra when I replace something. Put a thicker washer above the hitch pin and was back in business!
thehorse 221 #22 Posted December 15, 2013 Oh...and just go a little slower and take half the width after you get that first pass. I'll often hold the blower up on the first pass when it's heavy, let the chains dig me back and then go for it again.
