1973 wheel horse wiring isues

Recommended Posts

Andrew D.

hello I am new to the sight so this is all new to me,I am 15 and starting to get into wheel horse and so far this sight has been a ton of help,

My 1973 wheel horse 10 automatic is not turning over or even clicking the solenoid when I turn the key but if I cross wires on the solenoid with the key on it fires right up I am guessing a bad connection somewhere but no luck so far I replaced the solenoid and have gone trough some of the wiring cleaning it up, It worked fine when I bought it and slowly got worse (sometimes cranking over from the key sometimes not)

   what do you think?

could you add a link of an electrical diagram for my tractor if possible?

   Thank You

Click on the MANUALS button at the top of this screen - then Wheel Horse Manuals and follow links to your particular model.

I'm not sure what "crossing the wires" means. If you mean applying a jumper between the battery and starter studs on the starter relay

you have confirmed the wiring is good from the battery to the starter.

Next, try a jumper wire from the battery stud on the relay to the TRIGGER stud on the relay

If the starter relay is functioning properly, the engine will crank , and if the ignition switch is in the RUN position, the engine will start.

Let us know how this testing goes.

thank you all very much my grandpa happened to come over today and being a lifelong collector of any old lawn and garden tractors knew exactly what to do and we discovered it was in fact the solenoid I put a different one on there and it fired right up thank you very much, :)
