Agage1 83 #1 Posted September 25, 2014 I have 3 c160s hydro's with sunstrands. They all are good reliable tractors with no major issues. I just picked up another one minus the motor that I wanted for a dedicated snow plow machine. I bolted one of my spare k341s to it, mounted my extra wide snow plow to it and it runs great. As a matter of fact it is considerably faster than the rest of my hydro's. If I slam the speed control lever forward from a dead stop the front end will lift 3 feet off the ground with the snow plow attatched. My motor Is stock as are my pulleys. Like I said all my other c160s are good machines but none of the hydro's are as stout as this one. Any ideas?

bmsgaffer 2,045 #4 Posted September 25, 2014 I think hes trying to figure out what is different. I know in the later Eatons they offered two different gearing options. One topped out over 7mph and one was like 5mph. I am not sure about sundstrands, but maybe there were different gearing options over the years...
daveoman1966 3,762 #5 Posted September 25, 2014 If any of the C-160s has the 10-pinion LSD, that'd be the one to dedicate for dozer blade. Question is: Do these Sundstrand autos carry the 8 or the 10-pinion differential....don't know. To find out, jack up both wheels and turn one. If the opposite wheel turns SAME DIRECTION, then it is the LSD diff. Otherwiise, 8 pinion (or 4 ? ? )
meadowfield 2,595 #6 Posted September 25, 2014 sounds like the acceleration valve has a stronger spring or none at all... You might not be getting any relief pressure, which whilst good for instant starts is not good for the transmission, gearbox and hubs.
Agage1 83 #7 Posted September 25, 2014 Ive never opened up a hydro trans. I'm assuming the acceleration valve and spring are internal? Is this a major undertaking to check out. I like the way it performs now but if its gonna give me problems down the road I'd like to address it
meadowfield 2,595 #8 Posted September 25, 2014 From what I recall they are external screws/bolts that hold a ball under tension with a spring. Often the springs weaken or break, some folks put the correct replacement spring in... Other find something that fits!
