roverman2010 0 #1 Posted August 28, 2014 I have recently come about owning a Wheel Horse GT14, it had been sitting for sometime so I am changing fluids, points and cleaning out the fuel system before I start (or try to) it up. Need to ask is there any other way to obtain the engine number as the fan housing has been changed/repainted and there are no stickers on it. does the block have any stampings on it? I have also noticed on some web sites people say they have no compression, looking at the engine Manuel I have it mentions a ACR system fitted to the K series Kohler engines. Was this fitted to all or only after certain years? Model # 1 77452 ser# 684644 date? Thanks
stevasaurus 22,683 #2 Posted August 28, 2014 (edited) Welcome to red Square. That model # should maybe be 1-7452 (only one 7)...if so...it is a 1970 GT-14. The engine should be a Kohler K321S-60125B. (14hsp) Your engine probably has the ACR. I am not sure if all the K series have it...someone will know. Edited August 28, 2014 by stevasaurus

Ed Kennell 37,988 #4 Posted August 28, 2014 Dino, My '72 Raider 14 has the ACR. Engine # K321S-60137A.... could the "A" mean ACR ?
stevasaurus 22,683 #5 Posted August 28, 2014 (edited) Ed, the answer is no...just found some of it going through the manual. The 1st 2 numbers in the Spec # tell the engine size. Your 60 stands for K321. The rest of the numbers stand for variations of the Basic engine. I have looked through a lot of Kohler and Tecumseh books and I have never actually seen what those spec #s represent, but it is all about how Wheel Horse ordered the engines for their horses. Here is a link to the Kohler manual. It talks about the Automatic Compression Release in Section 9. https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B0skuszqFgg-YTk0ODdjMmYtMjQwMi00NDQ0LTk1YmItZGY4ZmEzODI2MDNk/edit?pli=1 Guess what??/ The manual says all "K" series except the K91 are equipped with ACR. So, I would say that the "A" you have in your spec # Ed does not stand for ACR. Edited August 28, 2014 by stevasaurus
Ed Kennell 37,988 #6 Posted August 28, 2014 Well..that answers one of Rovers and My questions. Maybe some day we'll also know what the letters in the spec # mean.
stevasaurus 22,683 #7 Posted August 28, 2014 According to a book I have, the rest of the spec # after the 1st 2 digits is just a numerical secession in variations in the basic engine as they happened. Sounds like the Kohler factory may be the only one that really knows. :)Maybe TT knows the answer.
CasualObserver 3,408 #8 Posted August 28, 2014 The letters on the model number mean different application type stuff... A=narrow block or special oil pan P=Pump Q=Quiet Line G=Generator R=Reduction Geared S=Electric starter T=Retractable starter I think there are a few others, those are just the ones that come to mind. And yes... TT probably knows them all.
oldredrider 2,548 #11 Posted August 28, 2014 Not all K series engines have an ACR. The ACR came in around the late '60s. Prior to that they used a 2 piece cam that retarded timing to make them easier to start.
stevasaurus 22,683 #12 Posted August 28, 2014 (edited) Jason...we are talking about the letters at the end of the spec number. Not all K series engines have an ACR. Check out Section 9 page 1 in this link...you got me what is right...I do not know. It looks like they are calling the cam thingy an ACR also...just a different type before the balls. https://docs.google....MDNk/edit?pli=1 Edited August 29, 2014 by stevasaurus
CasualObserver 3,408 #13 Posted August 28, 2014 Jason...we are talking about the letters at the end of the spec number. Ah... I always figured those to be like a type code. Never seen anything published on those. Tecumseh used them for parts list revisions.... could be like that?
