LORDY!!!NEED HELP BAD! CAUSE I GOT THE FEVER BAD,,D180 PRICE

ok men, here we go again. you remember a few months back. My friend had the D180.

I took some pictures and needed help in identifying it.

Well now it gets better. He calls me tonight,,,time for the D180 to go down the road. He was thinking of

$1500 for the tractor, selling price. Says to me a $1000 bucks if I want it.

I say I dont know if its worth a grand.

Heres the question. Is it worth a grand, is it worth more, is it worth $500? I dont want to screw him and I dont want to screw me, ouch that hurts. I can get more pictures tomorrow in the light, no deck with it, only the plow he made, will need shoes, I dont like the tires, look beat.

these are the pictures I took a few months back. I will also go back to my old posts and get the id numbers and such. From memory itsa 1974 D180.  sunstrand trans?????????? not a favorite of mine.

Any comments, all comments, evennif you tell me to get my head examined by the shrink is fine by me.

 

Whats a value, what would you pay?

I have a buddy with a D160 that he went through mechanically and it runs really nice. It needs paint etc and cannot sell it for $700 with no attachments. I would tell him to try and sell it on CL for what he wants and if it does not sell in a week or so then he should call you and you can talk. this way he "tried" to get his money for it (which he will not) and you both feel better if you agree on a price of around $750...

I second what Steve says. I think Sparky sold his absolutely mint D for like $1900. $1500 is like shooting for the moon. In these times even $1000 is high. The D160 his buddy is selling I believe he paid $500 for it. New tires all the way around is gonna run you around $300-$400 for that tractor. Between $500 and $700 is all I would go.

I would have to agree with the estimates of the others - $500 to $600 if the hydro is strong.  Personally I wouldn't want a D if it didn't have 3pt so if it is included maybe a bit more.

Tires didn't look all that bad.  New ones are pricey,  As other have stated how does it run when heated up?  Get her hot then try to push some dirt around.  You are buying a basic snowplow tractor what is that worth to you?  Ds are not the most efficient  or  easiest to use device if you want to cut grass...plus a deck will cost you more $$$.  I would stay closer to 500.

Get it hot, run it for at least 20 min to 30 min just warming up. Then find a tree, light pole or any immovable object. Bring motor up to power, then engage drive. If tires spin you should have a good trans. If it sits there and groans and doesn't do anything, run run run the opposite direction/ Chains look like four or six link. I'd lose those

There were 3 of them close to me on CL, 2-200's + a 180 with tons of attachments, 2 finish mowers, plows, decks, + more for 1500.00  They were on there a long time.  Nice tractors but not common enough to get parts for and can be a pain in the butt to work on for sure.  You aughtta see where they put the hydro.

Yep, that's the one. Sold the snow-blower and trailer separately, only the deck went with the tractor.

You better get help and quick!     I have 22 in the shop now, I am completely out of room.  Know what I just did?  Went looking on CL to see what was new.

YUP! That's the same way I once was. Used to spend every waking moment on CL or Ebay trying to find Wheel Horse tractors. I once drove 4 hours each way in a blinding ice storm to the eastern Mass coast to buy one. It was either the 753 or 702 with the HY2 hydraulics (can't remember which it was i've had so many)). Guy said there 5 people supposedly coming to get it after 5:00pm but it was first come first serve and I had the day off so I headed out.

 

Thank god i'm past that stage with the cost of gas now. Back then it was still only like $2.69 a gallon. I can tell you it really does get better.

 

Even SteveBo has slowed down a bit. Except his new found appreciation of antique outboards and aluminum boats has taken the tractors place. It might be even worse!

The other day at his house I counted 5 aluminum boats with three of them on trailers. Got to be like 10 or more outboards. Looks like his own private marina

Glenn I actually joined before that. Do to a dispute I had with a member I closed my account. When I had Karl reopen it I couldn't keep my original member number and start date. But alas yes it takes a bunch of years and a whole lot of money before it slows down. The big problem I see now is with the explosion of the internet a good portion of what was out there, at bargain prices, is gone. Sure theres the occasional  story you hear about where someone got a smoking nice tractor for like $200. Most of the tractors I bought were the cream of the crop in fantastic condition I paid anywhere between free and like $600 but most were in the $300 range. The nice thing was I held on to them for few years and when I did sell them I either broke even or made a couple bucks on them.

 

If you want to hear one of the best stories about mega finds, talk to Dave at Dave's Tractor World. He hooked up with a collector out here in CT and I think the story goes it was divorce situation. He hauled over 5 tractor trailer loads of tractors and parts off of the guys property. I'm talking Seniors, D200s, D250s and probably at least 1 of every tractor made. NOS parts like crazy. Decks, plows, blowers, etc. I forget the actual count of tractors but I believe it was well over 100.

 

Then there was RickV. This guy amassed one of the largest NOS Wheel Horse Tractor collections I have ever heard of. Some of them where still in the crate including Ds. Search the threads and check out his story. He too lost it all in a divorce. Too bad.

 

Those are probably 2 of the best stories about collecting and it's ups and downs but i'm sure there's plenty more but probably not to that extent.

I joined in 09 but I've been at it for well over 30 yrs. My best advice is to stay away from the space hogs unless you absolutely NEED it. (unless its a Senior.)
