stevasaurus 22,700 #452 Posted October 26, 2014 (edited) Hey Rob...just between you and me...Marshall is in Conference USA...might be a little better conference then the MAC, I don't know. I thought the MAC thingy did not sound right. Really though...back to that playoff conversation...what would be fair if you had 3 or 4 undefeated teams from the (so perceived) lesser conferences?? Say, Marshall from Conference USA, Bowling Green from the MAC, Boise St from the Mountain West, and Georgia Southern from the Sun Belt ....and LSU, Alabama, Ohio St and Oregon or USC or Notre Dame only had 1 loss...it is just not going to happen in this format. And we are not even talking about the sponsors and all the money from the teams and match ups that every one wants to see. Gee, you would fill up a stadium with people to watch Alabama against Notre Dame if both teams were 0 wins and 10 losses....would you fill up the Rose Bowl to see and undefeated Marshall play an undefeated Bowling Green?? I think the only real way to resolve this situation is to list all of the teams in a tournament bracket from the start of the season. The winners keep going in the bracket and the losers start another bracket...with no chance at the championship...after 4 weeks...all the losers go into their conference schedules and play out the season...the teams that keep falling out of the championship tournament bracket, fall into their conference schedules. In the end, you will only have 1 undefeated team standing and they all had a chance. What do you think??? Edited October 26, 2014 by stevasaurus

RMCIII 838 #455 Posted October 26, 2014 Steve Correct on the conference. My comment regarding Marshall and Mac was only to make a point. My thoughts sometimes preceed my words. Regardless, the misunderstanding is on me. My point, taking your example of finals, is irrelevant. It should not be about what sells. It should be about the best teams that year. NCAA has made a fortune, over the years, on the rankings. I think it is time NCAA sat back and watched a structured playoff would produce. If it came down a couple conferences that may not deserve to be in the title game, then the NCAA would need to improve what is currently in place for a playoff bracket. As you stated earlier, "Every once in a while the under dog"! Regardless of what "sells", it is supposed to be about who is the best regardless of the conference they are in. A couple 2 many IPA's! JimD 3,345 #457 Posted October 27, 2014 (edited) Hey Bob, misery loves company. I'll have one of them hot dogs warmed up for ya. I don't know what's worse Bob, just picking the games wrong like me, or having a team that you can't pick right no matter what you pick? Michigan has stung you all season when you picked em to win and again the one time you picked em to lose. Edited October 27, 2014 by JimD

Racinbob 11,036 #460 Posted October 27, 2014 I'd say it looks tougher this week but then again, it's always tough for me. Iowa, Penn State, Wisconsin, Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio State I'm digging this weeks menu!
RMCIII 838 #461 Posted October 27, 2014 I'm betting a lot of missed picks for this week only because anyone could show up and play. I would almost bet that Northwestern may surprise Iowa at home, but Iowa should win it easily. Same with Wisconsin at Rutgers and Indiana at Michigan......... Tough week again,. Seems only a few (3) teams want to win..... GO HERD!
RMCIII 838 #462 Posted October 27, 2014 Jim - remind me to share my "special" French Toast recipe. It is made from Krispy Kreme donuts..........
stevasaurus 22,700 #463 Posted October 28, 2014 You guys are what I am going to call "Big Ten Skidish" ...last week was a home team week...this week is another home team week...it should be Iowa, Penn St., Rutgers, Michigan, Nebraska, and Ohio St. That is not going to happen !!! My horses are still facing west, the smoke is the smell of fall leaves...I love that smell, and the Rock & Rye is pointing me in a direction that I just can not deny...here is my picks... ...and it is going to take some of these to make these picks this week. Northwestern, Maryland, Wisconsin, Indiana, Nebraska, Ohio St.

RMCIII 838 #465 Posted October 28, 2014 Steve, I give you the last 2 for sure... Since those are 2 of the teams that seem like they still want to win. The other 4, well as the good book says, "Ecclestastes 3:1 - To every thing there is a time and chance to every purpose under the sun". I'm guessing this is the season that the B1G has bee given several times a chance but decided they would rather do something like this. Ecclestastes 7:2 - It is better to go to the house of mourning, than to go to the house of feasting, for that is the end of all men, and the living will lay it to his heart..... Just guessing, cause nothing else seems to fit or make sense. So I can only draw from the Bible these conclusions.....

RMCIII 838 #468 Posted October 30, 2014 Did you guys hear what happened in Iowa yesterday? During practice, one of the running backs stopped because he found a white line on the field. They stopped the practice and called in the cops to investigate what the suspicious white line was. After further investigation, the report came back, that it was ok to resume practices, it was nothing more than the chalk that is used to outline the END ZONE!!!! When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin. When all is orderly, he does not forget that disorder may come. Thus his person is not endangered, and his States and all their clans are preserved. Confucius 1:01
