Mike 6 #4 Posted October 5, 2008 I made it 20 something years ago. Let my neighbor use it as I had quit burning wood. But retired this summer and going back to wood heat, still got the wood furnace hooked up so why not with price of gas.

Tractors 0 #17 Posted March 20, 2009 Great to see someone else working the wood pile. I have been at it for several days now. Still waiting for weather to melt the late hanging on snow. Still got 12to 18 inches. Normally its all gone by now and grass growing. Attached Image

hounddoghundzsa 7 #20 Posted March 21, 2009 Nice splitter Tractors - did you Fab the whole thing, or is it a manufactured machine?
Tractors 0 #21 Posted March 21, 2009 Hi Houndog, The splitter is made up of several castaway parts. The engine is an old wind the rope start Brigs 10 hp which has worked great for years. Still starts easily with 0 temp. The cylinder is from a D6 cat. Pump is out of a single axel dump truck. Tank home made. Control was used. Motor just idles while splitting and seldom works except on a tough knot. Home made frame, an old Toyota rear end and wheels. Attached Image
hounddoghundzsa 7 #22 Posted March 21, 2009 Funny you say the cylinder is from a D6 - we have one at work that was aquired with a buyout that we considering scrapping. As soon as I heard of thier plans, using one of the blade lift cylinders for my splitter was the first thing I thought of.
Tractors 0 #23 Posted March 23, 2009 You'll never in the world bend the shaft on the D6 cylinder. Incredible splitting power. Attached Image
