k+s 1277 1 #1 Posted August 11, 2014 I have a k-301 has a slight knock when under a load or going up hill, do you set points at .20 at TDC ? I reset points at .20 at TDC and got a little louder under load but runs good and starts good. should I set them at .17or .22 at TDC?? no knock at idle! oldredrider 2,548 #2 Posted August 11, 2014 Point gap determines timing on K series engines. Disregard degree setting for ignition timing. Try setting points gap at .018. You should not notice a "spark knock" at that setting.

Fordiesel69 258 #4 Posted August 15, 2014 Try .018 and a min of .017. If you still get it, then you need to get the rod / crankpin inspected. Some really nice and tight engines will run without a knock at .020. But I would assume the cam isn;t grooved, and the rest of the engine is like new. What really sucks I the magnum engnies are not adjustable.
