Wishin4a416 2,191 #1 Posted August 10, 2014 I think there was a thread on here a time ago about tightening ball joints. The small ones like on most of the tractors, not like on the 520. Anyone remember the fix. While I have the tractor down, I have one side of one kinda loose and was trying to remember the fix. I did a search and came up empty. Thanks! km3h 543 #2 Posted August 10, 2014 Usually they aren't very expensive and are just as easily replaced with new.

My dealer kills me on [special order shipping]. He's in his 70's and winding down and not stocking much any more.

rmaynard 15,417 #5 Posted August 11, 2014 If you have the adjustable tie rods, you can order new ends off eBay, McMaster & Carr, Amazon etc. If you have the non-adjustable tie rods, you can use a punch and hammer to tap around the ball socket to tighten it up.
Wishin4a416 2,191 #6 Posted August 11, 2014 Thanks Bob. Non-adjustable ones and only one end was slightly loose. Worked like a charm. Its tight now.

My local dealer waits until he has over a certain value before placing an order, not a real issue, usually within a couple of weeks the order is placed. km3h 543 #8 Posted August 12, 2014 I will call the dealer to see if he has it in stock. which they usually do for common items such as belts and key switches. For less common parts like springs and pulleys my dealer will usually get them within a week and I assume that is because he orders weekly to save the shipping charges. If it is something I have to have right away and the dealer doesn't have in stock, I go on line. Yes there are shipping charges but I look at that as paying a convenience fee for fast service. You have to figure that driving to the shop and back will sometimes cost more than having something shipped to your door. Sometimes I order something and it comes within two days. Would he happen to be along route 51 or somewhere like that because I'm probably getting from the same guy I believe it's Thompson's Garage Edited August 14, 2014 by Desko
