aaubrey96 0 #1 Posted August 2, 2014 My mom told me the other day she could get me a free wheel horse if I wanted it and I had been looking into buying a third one anyways so of coarse I said yes. Well we drove probably 35 minutes away to go pick it up when we got there they had it ready and loaded it for me and everything and this is what I got.
Ed Kennell 37,988 #2 Posted August 2, 2014 (edited) Looks like they were using it as a stationary power source to drive something mounted on the front rails.... ie generator , ice cream maker, etc. Does it run ? Edited August 2, 2014 by ekennell
Sparky-(Admin) 21,295 #3 Posted August 2, 2014 You got yourself an ex-pulling tractor. I can see the wheelie bars off the back. That tranny laying on the trailer was only used (as far as I know) on the Commando 800 which had a Briggs 8hp gen start motor originally. Mike........... aaubrey96 0 #4 Posted August 2, 2014 They told me that the transmission was bad when they got it then they never put that one it. But I would have to say that the engine or hood is not original also because the engine dosnt fit in the cutout in the hood No key and it would need a lot of carb help it was left out for a while without an air filter

Geno 1,929 #6 Posted August 3, 2014 (edited) It can always become a parts tractor at least and that's a good thing. It was free and that's the best. For mom! The writing on the hood looks like circus writing. Edited August 3, 2014 by Geno
AMC RULES 37,125 #7 Posted August 3, 2014 Free is good, did they say what they were using if for? Unusual to see a four wheeled horse standing on it's own two legs.

However, I don't think that's a Commando 800 transmission. I've had two and that is not like any I've seen. Both my Commandos had Kohler 8 horse with starters. Kelly 1,029 #9 Posted August 3, 2014 (edited) May have been a 800 special they used that trans and style hood Correction the A90 used that hood, and trans, the 800 special used that trans but the newer hood, both had starter/gen 8 hp briggs Edited August 3, 2014 by Kelly
aaubrey96 0 #10 Posted August 3, 2014 They were going to pull it but the old rear end that they don't have anymore was bad and they said it would only drive in circles. It is definitely a Kohler engine but there are no serial number that I can find anywhere
Catmanii 36 #11 Posted August 3, 2014 As it was free, the first thing I would do is see if I could get it to run. How and if it run would determan if I put it back togather or used for parts. If the engine is in good shap it is for sure worth spending a little money on. You can't beat free.
Kelly 1,029 #12 Posted August 3, 2014 Little closer look and I'm going to say that is/was a 68 or 69 short frame tractor, that trans will not fit it, would have had a 6 or 7 hp Tecumseh or a 8 hp Kohler from the factory

Geno 1,929 #20 Posted August 3, 2014 That looks like a 4831 to me. If so it is a 1968 Commando 8, 4 speed, Kohler K181S-30108D. Nice little tractors.
