neil 2,409 #1 Posted August 2, 2014 Found the unusual find here in UK . The 854 are extremely rare here in UK ,in fact all round hoods are rare in UK . This little guy has been modified by attaching running boards from a 70's tractor . The running boards look like they were added a good few years ago , maybe as far back as the 70's . This tractor was apparently used to pull light aircraft around an airfield. There were 6 tractors bought to do this job & this little dude is no 4 . Sadly when I picked the tractor up is was minus a hood so I just placed the hood from my 653 , so I am now looking for a hood for an 854 should anyone have a good spare that they would like to sell & ship to UK.
AMC RULES 37,125 #2 Posted August 2, 2014 Nice round hood score Neil... surprisingly, those running boards don't look half bad. Plan on keeping 'em on?
Ken B 3,164 #3 Posted August 2, 2014 Nice score Neil. Add a hood and lose the fenders....
neil 2,409 #4 Posted August 2, 2014 I think i am going to lose the running boards and take her back to original. looking for a good 854 hood now
Sparky-(Admin) 21,296 #5 Posted August 2, 2014 Nice find Neil! I would definitely lose those running boards. So.....is it like it is over here in the states, meaning when something like that tractor you bought pops up on a classified venue that you have to move fast or lose out? I know that here in Connecticut we have plenty of guys surfing all the different classified sources and if something shows up that I want I have to make my move fast!! Mike....... neil 2,409 #6 Posted August 2, 2014 This tractor was on the auction site beginning with E & ending Bay & it was on for three days with no bids for £100/ $140 so i shot the geezer an offer and he accepted . He said that he had no interest from anyone. Although i think his picture wasnt particularly flattering & i dont think he really knew what he had. This was the only picture that used to sell the tractor
Charlie Smith 142 #7 Posted August 2, 2014 I saw that on that site Neil, picture was taken sideways and the machine was covered in a shed or somewhere full of bits and bobs, I could see it was a round hood from the tank location, nice find well done, I don't suppose you know of an engine that will fit my round hood the one I have isn't original, and the hood won't sit properly with the engine I have, (has to be raised) which looks rather unattractive

stevasaurus 22,683 #9 Posted August 2, 2014 That is a real nice find Neil. Can't wait to see what you end up doing with her. Looks like you need a foot rest for the left side also. What's up with the belt guard being chopped on the rear top of it ??
Wheel-N-It 2,968 #10 Posted August 3, 2014 Looks like you have a fun project tractor Neil. Did you ask the person you bought it from if he had any pics of the tractor in it's working days as an airplane tow tractor?
neil 2,409 #11 Posted August 3, 2014 Van, the guy that sold it to me bought it from the airfield & sadly didn't know too much about the tractor apart from it being no 4 of 6 That's all he knew. This tractor lost its hood along its travels somewhere & the previous owner was going to fabricate a c series hood to fit this tractor . He gave me the spare c series hood but I give that away to Stigian for his current project
Wheel-N-It 2,968 #12 Posted August 3, 2014 Well Neil you ended up with the tractor, and thats the best part ! I'm looking forward to seeing your progress with it
