188fan 5 #1 Posted August 1, 2014 I stepped off into the wheel horse craze today and have no idea what I bought. Comparing mine to pictures on here Im thinking its early 60s 653 or 633? It has an 8hp Kohler and thats about all I can find on the tractor. Where would a s/n tag be for the tractor itself?

stevasaurus 22,684 #3 Posted August 1, 2014 Welcome to Red Square. Are you sure that is an 8 hsp Kohler? That engine looks original and there were no 8hsp until 1964. Could the engine be a 7 hsp Kohler?? The model # tag should be on the dash tower...just under the gas tank. If I had to guess, it looks like a 702 to me...7 hsp Kohler/1962. See if there is a tag.
Sparky-(Admin) 21,296 #4 Posted August 1, 2014 If the 8hp is original its an 854 (1964). I don't believe there was a model before that with an 8hp Kohler. Do you have a belt guard on the drive belt on the side of the tractor we cant see? Is there a 3 digit # on it? Mike.........

188fan 5 #8 Posted August 1, 2014 It's definitely an 8hp Kohler according to the engine decal. As for the belt guard, it's there but the model number is gone. Can't find the tag on column you guys mentioned. Maybe it was removed or just broke off somehow. I have more pictures if I can figure out how to post them from my iPhone 4s. It was running when parked last. What is something like this worth? I have no intention of selling it at this time. But would be fun to know.

neil 2,409 #14 Posted August 2, 2014 Welcome to Redsquare Scott, from us in UK. Looks like an 854 to me 8 = horsepower 5 = Electric start 4 = year manufactured 1964 I wouldn't be too concerned about its value as you couldnt buy the amount of fun & enjoyment that this little tractor is gonna bring you. It's now part of your family , so is priceless

stevasaurus 22,684 #23 Posted August 2, 2014 yep, it is an 854. Can't tell, but it looks like the tag might have been on the dash tower on the side of the lift lever. You'll like that 8hsp Kohler.
188fan 5 #24 Posted August 2, 2014 What's a good guesstimate on its value as is? I know usually whatever one is willing to pay is what it's worth. I'm just curious. I have never laid eyes on one until 3 days ago.
