What are a set of 55lb (ea) cast iron wheel weights worth?  They fit inside the wheel and have 3 holes with longer bolts that bolt right to the hub.

I once was told "a dollar a pound", but I sold some front weights for a Bolens for $125, and I am buying some front WH for the same money.

I have seen the insert cast iron weights for the 12" rears go for over 200 bucks. If they are Wheelhorse weights, they may fetch that price if cleaned up and the Wheelhorse logo/name is showing.

They are 25 minutes down the road where I bought a tractor and some other stuff yesterday from the same guy.  I bought a front set and 2 rear sets from him yesterday also.  I can get the 55lb set for 100.00. I like the look of them, they mount totally inside the wheel without sticking out.

Since I started this obsession 2 months ago all I have been thinking about is the Winter stuff.  This Winter I'll be concentrating on the Spring stuff.  Yeah, I'm one of those who buys the Summer clothes in the Fall on clearance and the Winter clothes in the Spring also on clearance.

A dollar a pound for generic steel. $150-$200 for  steel rears.and $150-$250 for  fronts because they are more rare. I got lucky and got my fronts for $60 all painted up but I had to drive through a blizzard to get them.

I picked up a set of WH (newer style) cast iron rear weights for $50 last weekend.  The last set of identical weights I bought in 2011 I paid $40.  Recently I found I guy on CL in CT who had a pair of old Sears CI weights.  He wanted $120.  You have to be patient.

Finally got them all painted up. They were all already red except for the fronts, they were black. 

 

Gonna put up pics in order, 1st - 55lbs each, 2nd - 40lbs each, 3rd - 30lbs each, 4th - front 20lbs each.

I don't think any of those are "genuine" Wheel Horse weights.

What Wheel Horse name and logo? I have 4 sets of these things and not 1 of them has a horse head emblem or Wheel Horse on them anywhere

 

 

And as far as the pics, there isn't w weight on there thats a Wheel Horse factory weight. They're MTD weights

Only the plastic weights have the logo on them as far as I know. The cast iron front and rear weights have no logo.

Only the fronts are wheel horse, they were black and new in the wheel horse box. I have some other Wheel Horse weights I picked up in Jersey that the dealer said were made for specific WH tractors that don't look like anything I've ever seen. In the pics above, I think the first ones are Cub Cadet, the second set I think are old Farmall Cub weights, the 3rd set is made to stack but I don't know what they are. The 1st and 3rd set fit inside a 12" rim, the second set fits inside the lip only of a 12" rim, 2 of the holes are very close but not perfect.

The last one that is solid, #4.  He said they were for an 8" front but also fit something else, like a dual purpose.  I can't remember everything he said because he told me so much my head exploded.

These are not mine, I just borrowed the photo....The fronts on the left are identical to mine.

Again...those are MTD weights. They're on ebay all the time for 30- 50 bucks a pair. Ive even paid 20 for them. They are not Wheel Horse weights. The box doesn't make them Wheel horse weights anymore than a turquoise box makes a 2 dollar watch a Tiffany. Putting those weights in a Wheel Horse box is like putting lipstick on a pig... He handed you a line or he didnt know himself. Wheel Horse factory front weights look like the above white ones and my black ones

He definitely didn't hand me a line, the RJ I bought from him he sold new so he does know a little bit about these Horses.  If it's one thing I've learned in my life you never get too many things set in stone or someone will come along with a lot more age + experience and make you look stupid.     

 

I have new sealed Wheel Horse weights in boxes that I opened that I have never seen anything like it and he told me the part # and what they were for.  You can show this man a part and he will give you a part number off the top of his head.  I spent 2 1/2 days in awe being quiet and learning.  Other than anyone here who was selling Wheel Horses when they first came out I will guarantee you he knows as much about these as anyone on the planet, especially you or me.  What were you doing in 1959? I didn't show up till 2 years later. 

 

 

Easy question of the day, what was Wheel Horses very first part and part number?  I learned the answer from him and if no one gets it I'll let you know.
