GT-1200 before and after

I got this a year ago.  Very rusty from being in a leaky garage with ash floor.  Any flat surface was badly pitted.  The deck that the PO had leaning against the wall needed the rear panel replaced. And I also plated the top where the spindles are.  And alot of cleaning on the tractor itself.  Paid $200 and sold the plow, chains and weights for $100.  Here's the pics.

What a great job. Make sure you post the photos when it is painted.

It could possibly use just a tad more in a few places. Or maybe I am missing something.

Wow!

Lots of work went in to that deck!  By the way, I like the paint job as it is.

I took a second look at this thread and realized that the deck was finished, painted and on the tractor already and the last set of photos showed the reconstruction. Do wonder you like the paint the way it is. Great job on the whole project.

When I redo a horse I have to do something a little different.  That makes it "mine".  And a WorkHorse  is originally light grey.  The PO painted it all red.  Now it's back to grey, maybe a little darker than original.

A new deck shell is $900 ... the 1/8" metal cost $25.

Now the neighbor wants to buy it.

I really like the way you fixed that deck. It should last a very long time. Do you have any photos of the underside after you did the repair?

Sorry,  I was in a hurry to get it done and so picture taking stopped.

The underside has the baffles, I took them out to repair the deck and put them back in.

The rear panel that I put in (it is not just laid over the holes... I cut out the rear panel and welded the new one in its place).

The new piece has the crease near the bottom and I welded a ¼" rod along the bottom edge.

The top piece is overlaid and welded.  It took me a week to do this.

So the underside looks good.... welds all smoothed out and a coat of Plastikote bed liner spray.

I've mowed my yard a few times and now the neighbor is buying it.  $450.

If I had to pay myself for working on it I would get paid about a $1 an hour.

People have asked me if I would restore their mowers and I tell them they couldn't afford it!

"It takes a little money and a whole lot of time!"
