GreenMntRanger 38 #1 Posted July 19, 2014 Feel like a fool. cant find my ignition key. is there a quick fix or do I need a whole new switch, key assembly?
Geno 1,929 #2 Posted July 19, 2014 What kind of tractor do you have? There are a few different ignition switches Indak being the most popular by far.
Geno 1,929 #4 Posted July 19, 2014 (edited) Thanks AMC. That is the Indak key. You should be able to get one anywhere that mowers are sold. Do you have a local mower repair shop? Just be careful what you spend, some places are $4-5 for a key. I but them from Amazon in a 25 pack for $17 delivered (.68 per key). They are the cheapest I can find anywhere. You could also consider O'reilly Auto Parts, they have the switch and 2 keys for around $10. I would rather have an extra switch hanging around and 2 keys for $10 than spend $8-10 on 2 keys. GreenMntRanger 38 #10 Posted July 19, 2014 LOL... was going nuts looking for it. promised my 11 y/o niece I would let her drive the horse this weekend and the girl is relentless. thanks for the help guys. by the way, it's a 414-8. looking to get a 18-20 horse WH this year. told the wife I need a stable, easier to grab a tractor with the implement mounted then keep swapping out attachments

GreenMntRanger 38 #14 Posted July 20, 2014 I keep my keys in the switch where I can find them. My old John Deere just has a selector nob on the switch. I have a 3 almost 4 y/o grandson living with me and just loves Grandpa's red tractor. Geno 1,929 #15 Posted July 20, 2014 If I took mine out of the switch I would never find it. Somebody should start a topic about where do you keep your tractor keys.
Digger 66 3,478 #16 Posted July 20, 2014 I put one of these thingamajigs on my four wheeler keys after dropping one in the mud . Just a length of hi-vis Nylon rope tied & heat-shrinked . At $ 90.00 a key plus a 40 mile ride to the dealer to have it programmed , it's a bunch cheaper & works great ( doesn't scratch while bobbling around either ) . Geno 1,929 #17 Posted July 20, 2014 $90.00 for a key!
Digger 66 3,478 #18 Posted July 20, 2014 $90.00 for a key! Yep! D.E.S.S ( digitally encoded security system ) . They have to be programmed to interface with the engines ECU . Plus a 40 mile ride to the dealer (80 Mi round trip) @ around 15 MPG ... The rope's cheaper .
Geno 1,929 #19 Posted July 20, 2014 Talk about adding insult to injury. I work with that same mess in the shop on todays cars but it has no business on a 4 wheeler. I bet if Wheel Hose made a 4 wheeler it would have an Indak Switch that's $10 with 2 keys.
