RJ 58 steering

Recommended Posts

Question about the steering on my RJ 58. It was very stiff when I picked it up, so I have disassembled it and cleaning and greasing all parts. Me question is the pin in the right end of the tie rod is welded in place. Is that factory? I can't tell from the diagrams. Also the welding on the spindles look 'home made'. I'll get some pictures of this if it helps. Just wondering if these 2 things sound original.

Thanks, jb4249

They did not come from the factory welded but it's common to see them welded up after they wear.

If you are referring to the right side of the tie rod, as if you were sitting on the tractor, and it is the side that connects with a snap ring yes that would have been welded. But the pins like what are on the other side, and go in the steering block are not welded.

I always wondered about that since I have one where they are all welded. Can you post a picture of yours?

Thanks

Here are the pictures. The right end of the steering tie rod and I tried to get both of the spindles. The right one looks like a factory weld but the left ones looks home made.
