nylyon-(Admin) 7,481 #2 Posted July 15, 2014 The hub caps occasionally pop-up here and on eBay. Depending on the condition they are generally in the $100 - $200 range for them

PaulC 342 #4 Posted July 15, 2014 how bad did he ruin them? if they are paintable I would maybe be interested in buying them from you? although considering you have a 416 im thinking you have the larger front wheels? if interested send me a pm with photos and what you would want for them thanks paul
ssecoy 0 #5 Posted July 15, 2014 It looks like he took sandpaper to them.. I'm at work now but will send pics when I get home around
PaulC 342 #6 Posted July 15, 2014 sandpaper would definitely ruin them. for future reference when cleaning chrome the best thing to use is the finest steel wool u can find and some chrome polish. its amazing what it can do. I just redid my tractor and thought the chrome hubcaps were so far gone that I was going to have to paint them and planned on it. When I was ready to start prepping them I decided to give the steel wool a shot and they cleaned up great!! if you can when you send the pics please put a tape measure on the front ones. I would want them for my other 312 which has the 6" front wheels I think your 416 has 8"
ssecoy 0 #7 Posted July 15, 2014 Okay I will and thanks for the tip
Racinbob 11,726 #8 Posted July 15, 2014 What about getting them rechromed? I have no clue what that would cost but it seems like an option.
ssecoy 0 #9 Posted July 15, 2014 I thought of that but do not have the slightest clue where to get that done around my area
Racinbob 11,726 #10 Posted July 15, 2014 I just did a quick internet search. You could easily ship them somewhere but I'm betting there's somebody close enough. I even saw a spray on chrome plating but I can't imaging it being as good as the real thing.
ssecoy 0 #11 Posted July 15, 2014 I'm thinking of trying the steel wool first to bring out all the marks but if not then I may just have to paint them depending on if or what the cost is of having them rechromed. I really appreciate all the replies!
Racinbob 11,726 #12 Posted July 15, 2014 Good luck. What ever you do don't just toss them. There's some pretty clever folks on here that would like a shot at them if you decide to part with them.
Shuboxlover 479 #13 Posted July 15, 2014 I would seriously check into having someone re-chrome them....
kudzu3 323 #14 Posted July 16, 2014 A good buffing with 0000 steel wool may work, I use it to remove light surface rust from blued gun parts. I always use it with a little light gun oil to keep from scratching. Worth a try, re-chroming ain't cheap. Good luck with it.
Foozerush 40 #15 Posted July 17, 2014 I bought 2 pairs of rusty hubcaps off a RS member this spring. The way I cleaned them up CHEAP was an overnight soak in apple cider vinegar. Worked great. Little elbow grease to shine them up. $3 a gal at GFS. Totally pleased how they came out. On my 416-8. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Racinbob 11,726 #16 Posted July 17, 2014 Those did clean up nice. I recently heard of the health benefits of apple cider vinegar and now this really good use .
Hodge71 665 #17 Posted July 17, 2014 I use water and Reynolds heavy duty aluminaum foil crumpled up in a ball. Then hit it with Wenol It works amazing on everything but the most destroyed chrome.
