T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,496 #3 Posted December 26, 2007 Eldon, It looks like you have any snow covered (pun unintended). Nice herd also.
kpinnc 11,877 #4 Posted December 26, 2007 Holy cow Eldon! Blow the snow, push the snow, and if that isn't enough, MOVE it! Great herd! Kevin
Sparky-(Admin) 21,300 #5 Posted December 26, 2007 Now thats a good lookin bunch of tractors! I bet that 2 stage snow-chucker is seriously heavy . Mike.........
kj4kicks 151 #6 Posted December 26, 2007 Thanx guys ! yes, that 2-stage is heavy, but it has a lift-assist sping on it about the size of a garage door spring. That, and the hydraulic lift, makes it a featherweight. Hopefully since I'm well prepared this year, I won't need any of them! Eldon.
Rollerman 290 #7 Posted December 27, 2007 Hopefully since I'm well prepared this year, I won't need any of them! Thats funny but true...always seems to snow more here when I'm not prepared for it. :D

Rollerman 290 #9 Posted December 27, 2007 Eldon I wanted to ask...how is the steering with the 2 stage? Bearable or pretty hard to turn with it up?
nylyon-(Admin) 7,264 #10 Posted December 27, 2007 And I thought I was ready, makes mine look like amature hour!
kj4kicks 151 #11 Posted December 27, 2007 Stephen, it actually doesn't turn too bad. I've got some weight hanging off the back as a counter-balance, and the 160 still has the 4 ply front tires (with 20psi) on it from it's FEL days. The 2 stage uses the front mount and the mid mount. I think that helps spread some of the weight to behind the front tires, which also helps. Eldon.
nylyon-(Admin) 7,264 #12 Posted December 27, 2007 The HD front spindles have to help with the bearings to help turn.
kj4kicks 151 #13 Posted December 27, 2007 The HD front spindles have to help with the bearings to help turn. Oh yes, I keep forgetting about those things, since I didn't install them. BTW, I had all 4 of them running while I was taking pictures. That sounded pretty cool, but I'm sure the neighbors were shaking their heads again... Eldon. Rollerman 290 #14 Posted December 27, 2007 The 2 stage uses the front mount and the mid mount. I guess I've never looked to close at one mounted up...just Dales brothers tractor in pics. I have just heard stories of them being a bear to turn...the HD spindles & 4 ply no doubt do help also. Now do those HD spindle kits carry a bearing in the axle kingpin or a thrust washer at the base of it? The noise won't bother your neighbors when they need a drift busted out with that 2 stage or the FEL Maybe you should consider a D250 with a glass pack on it... :D
nylyon-(Admin) 7,264 #15 Posted December 27, 2007 There is one of those bearing washers at the bottom. Wished that they all had that regardless of HD or not.
sorekiwi 761 #16 Posted December 28, 2007 There is one of those bearing washers at the bottom. Wished that they all had that regardless of HD or not. I've put bronze thrust washers on the spindles before inserting them in the axle on a couple of tractors now, and it definately has lightened up the steering a bit. A proper ball type thrust washer would work even better if you have room for it, and the mating surface on the steering arm is flat enough for good contact.
